I don't see my option on the poll.
I do both. I'll buy albums blindly only if I'm familiar with the artist. Otherwise, I always download music and then after a while I either delete it or go out and buy the physical album. I get the "support" argument, and I support the hell out of my chosen artists, but I can't support every artist I listen to the same way I support them (consider for example Emilie Autumn, who's gotten something like $600 from me since 2009, but on one side she has more of a need for it than the wealthier and more popular of music artists). But yeah, I do the concerts, VIP, merch, buying directly from the artist to bypass third parties, etc. I just really dislike disappointing purchases and would rather not leave anything to chance lol.

No, I download all of my music illegally. I know, I'm a thieving bastard. Sue me.

Why don't we have a both option?
I usually buy songs now and then but I get a lot of music from friends and I'm about 100% sure they download it illegally, so yeah...I'm guilty, too.

I just listen to whatever I want on YouTube. I used to buy CDs a lot when I was a kid (back when that was cool), but I don't think I've bought any music at all in three or four years.

I usually download music..
However, sometimes I do things the sweet way and listen to Pandora or Youtube. Where then, I find more music to download.

I usually pay for my music on Google Play, especially when an album is on offer at 99p from something like £8 I just can't resist. :D

Buying music would be extremely hard for me. Not only I have downloaded >300GB music in my life, 3/5 of that I only listened once (and discarded) and that's still a heck load of music. Assuming I could buy music only after pirating, then my library would still be limited. Albums are damn expensive in Brazil (reaching $50, 1/7 national minimum wage!) and to make matters worse, most aren't available here, which means importing. Importing from Europe and America to Africa is way too expensive, and most artists don't have an iTunes ore something of the sorts. Oh, and a lot of artists I listen to have broken up since ages.
I could buy a car if I bought all the tracks, at $0.99 (iTunes price, right?), that I listen to.

I do both. I mean, I pay for Spotify, which is generally where my music comes from, or I'll pay for merch/physical albums if I really like the cd or band, but usually if I can get it for free, I will. :P I don't feel sorry for not supporting those I don't know that I'll like (I'll usually go back and buy if I do), or those who are friggin multi-billionaires to begin with.
Quality is also an issue for me, so I get pretty picky with downloads. Also, it's time-consuming. :P

1. I do have music from iTunes that I did pay for. I don't listen to it much anymore because...
2. I have an app on my iPod that allows me to download from mp3skull and similar sites. I do this because I do not have the money to pay for every song from iTunes. I probably have about $200 worth of music for free. I also download from youtube on my computer.
3. Anytime I'm not listening to my free music app, I'm listening to Pandora.

Nope. The music copyright laws are old and need to be updated. You can't really get in trouble for it. "Do what you want because a pirate is free, YOU ARE A PIRATE"

I download my music illegally. I don't got money and music is something that really relaxes me and calms me down. By the way just in case you say parents to pay, my parents wont spend a dollar at all.

then how about " supporting " artists who produce musics that calm you down as you said so that they will keep working

A lot of people in my school used to (and most likely still do) download music from youtube converters and such. I used to do that too, then I got sick of not being able to find all the songs of an album and I needed to because I like organizing my songs in that way rather than just my preference. I recently downloaded some ZIPs with music in, but I've been buying music both physical and digital for quite a while now. I had access to my bank card for a while, possibly the biggest mistake my mum ever made  constantly checked my bank record and saw a lot of transactions towards Google Play where I was buying digital music from there. I stupidly thought if it wasn't anything physical she wouldn't know about it and nor would anyone else. So I've got a really big load of digital albums, possibly worth £150+ or something, and probably also £300 worth of CDs. And the funny thing is, when I bought this new phone I realized storage space was less than I had before and I had to start paying for Spotify Premium as the only visible way to sort out my problem -_- so all of those CDs and digital songs are useless once again.
"Long story short" - I buy music now

Most of the time I listen to music on YouTube or on Grooveshark, although if I want to get music offline I'll just buy it on iTunes.
I used a YouTube converter once to download a song ("Liar Liar" by Cris Cab, if you're wondering), but the cover art was blurry as all hell and the MP3 was kind of quieter than usual, so I just decided to buy it the first chance I got. :P

I used to download it illegally, but at the time I didn't know it was illegal so after a minor scare, I buy my music or listen to it on Youtube.

Usually I pay, it's easier. My iTunes account has about $100 so I can buy music off there no problem. Although I occasionally download, depending on a few things.

I don't pay. I'd like to see you try when in my country they don't even sell proper (real and legit) albums and not bootlegs only. Plus more than half of the music I have listened to is impossible to find ANYWHERE without paying for rare collections, or somehow getting something to play vinyl and stuff. I know it's it wrong to do so, and I should support the artists, but if I can't to begin with and not listen to them at all, then what is the point? So yeah, I can justify why I illegally download music like half the planet.

If I like something I hear, I'll go down to the hi-fi store and buy it when I can. I don't really download albums or songs, but if I don't have it and I haven't bought it yet, I'll head over to YouTube and watch it. If it's not on YouTube (and believe me this has been the case in some instances) I'll see if I can download it elsewhere, before I do or if I can't buy it.
or somehow getting something to play vinyl and stuff. You'd be surprised how... not so much common, but available, they are. Especially if you can buy it online.

I steal all of mine from the internet, Im a theiving bastard as well.
But sometimes if its a smaller band that I really like, such as Cage The Elephant or The Wombats, then I will buy it, just to support them. But it will be a physical version...funny thing is, once I have bought the CD I will steal the MP3's from YouTube to save myself the trouble of ripping it from the CD....odd I know...

Well I have Spotify Premium and I mostly use that. But I voted that I don't pay because when it comes to downloading music I use a Youtube to mp3 software. If it's one of my favorite bands though I do feel a little guilty downloading the music for free, so sometimes I'll buy it on itunes. Spotify really is the best though because you pay $10 a month rather than having to pay for every song (that would cost wayyyy too much :P)

I listen to the songs on Youtube, and if I really like them, I'll buy them on iTunes. I drive places a lot and don't want to waste data by streaming music. I don't like illegally downloading music because when the songs don't have the cover art and aren't put together in the correct album and all of those things bother me way too much.

yeah that really annoys me. but i use the iTunes store to find out which album it came from and then get iTunes to download the artwork.
