View Full Version : Not Sure What's Wrong With Me

This has been going on for a while (few years). Every time I hear a tragic story, such as the Newtown Shootings, Boston Marathon Bombing, etc., I don't feel affected at all by it. In fact, in more "minor" cases (kidnapping, rape, etc.) I just seem to ignore it altogether. However when it comes to personal things (death in family, etc.), I practically drown in tears.
I also have another problem. I have feeling I might have MPD, but not sure. Occasionally there is a day where I feel like really using my knowledge and being very social, but the next day I feel reserved and quiet and don't want to interact with others.
Any help?

Well for the first part, you're not affected by the stories because they don't actually affect you at all. I could hear about about a train wreck killing 50 people and just say "ehhh, it happens".

Well that's totally normal. I'm not affected by that stuff either. It happens, I'm glad it wasn't me or anyone I know.
That's normal. So what your not super social. It doesn't mean you have a disorder lol

I don't think that you have a disorder of some sort. I'm not really affected by those things much myself because they don't really affect me...I don't find them funny or anything, it's tragic but still it has nothing to do with me. It is just normal...if you are personally affected like when someone from your family dies you feel...the other way round would be weird probably.
And for your second problem, everyone has good and bad days that's just human and has nothing to do with having some sort of mental illness or whatever.

You sound exactly like me. It's totally normal. I have mood swings like that, everybody does. And if it bothers you that you don't feel much empathy - much like most people - just try this. Every time you hear about something bad happening on the news, just have a private moment of silence within yourself, reflecting on it and, if you're religious, pray for the victims. Just take a moment to be grateful for all you have, grateful that your life and family is unaffected, and you'll feel better. Maybe give a bit to charity or something.
Hope I've helped...

I don think that anything is wrong with you. I have watched those thing happen, lived through those things, and the big ones haven't affected me in any way. It's when it comes down to the personals is when it hurts.

You really hit a home run on that one. Couldn't have said it better myself. I agree. Mood swings happen with everyone. Also, praying does help.
