Hope this is the right place to post :3

So I recently got a job as a RA for my college next semester. We have two main dorms and an older dorm that is an overflow for res life. Story goes a girl who lived in the building killed herself (or murdered, unsolved) and now her ghost haunts the building. Doors would lock when the ra had a master key. And we would have to keep unlocking them. Many past residents said she could be seen at the end of their bed at night.

As a resident assistant I want to feel comfortable in the building I am helping students with. Is this all just kind of silly? I told the asst director and she said that if I was uncomfortable she would move me to another dorm if an ra doesnt accept their job.

Maybe a little help so I don't get freaked out. Mostly worried about moving in one week ealy and living alone in there lol.

Yes, it's silly. I won't even go into the whole "there's no possible way ghosts could exist" argument, but its silly. If people are hearing whispers or noticing unusual things its only because they've heard about the "ghost" and so their brains are on alert, and extra perceptive to scary sights and sounds. It's an evolutionary defense mechanism. Better to have thought you may have saw a tiger and to go running into the woods than not see one and get eaten. But rationality rarely wins against fear, so if you get scared......... I don't know, buy a nightlight. :P

Now aliens on the other hand, they'll fuck you up. Stay away from them.

Well, I don't really get why this is a topic for the general hospital...but anyway a ghost? I don't think that there is a possibility that you'll be harmed by a ghost in the dorms. When you are alone at night your mind can play a trick on you, okay...but ghosts...even if they'd exist...I wouldn't be afraid if I were you...and should you by chance really meet this girl ghost then just help her to find her peace and you'll be rid off her. That's at least what they do on TV :)

I don't want a debate, but I do know ghosts exist. They do. I am NOT saying that story is true though. 99% of ghost stories you hear you best ignore. If that story makes you really uncomfortable though I can give you a little charm in case you really feel like you need it.

Are you allowed to be noisy while working? Because if you notice something weird, like doors locking themselves or wardrobes rattling or whatever, I'd advise you to yell at the top of your lungs. Ghosts are once humans too. Just pretend you're speaking to some naughty kid. "STOP THAT YOU LITTLE ****" or things like that LOL probs without the swearword. I don't know is this charm really effective or it's just power of the mind, but I've heard dozens of stories like this and this little "charm" always works.

There was a very interesting study I saw presented once in a documentary that explained a lot of atmospheric phenomenon that cause the being haunted feeling. Some of it's industrial. And when my dad was in college he worked as a nightwatchman and his building was "haunted". Doors would slam shut by them selves. He could hear people walking around on the floor above him, even though the building was empty. In the long run he figured out all of that was the heating and air conditioning systems of the building doing those things from air pressure changes and air duct filters rattling etc.

Thanks everyone :) The other ra who has the building each year wanted to get a priest to clense the building. And when I learned of that they told me about the ghost. I shouldnt let my mind wonder when weird stuff happens. Have to get used to knocks on my door at 3 am from residents anyways lol.

Thank you that did help. Btw it is dark in there so here I come lamp section at walmart lol

I actually find this a tad bit offensive, having a schizophrenic brother and knowing that it is exactly this kind of attitude that makes some parents of people with serious mental disorders seek out the help of psychics or priests instead of getting them the professional guidance they deserve. When my brother, 12 year old Chris started hallucinating and being tormented by a ghost named Freddy you know what my moms initial reaction was? My son is being haunted by a ghost! I'm going to take him to church and see a psychic " Thankfully he's now on medication and receiving therapy, because my mom isn't completely insane.

I know you probably don't support taking mentally ill people to psychics, but what you don't realize is that by furthering this bullshit, amd by saying that it's perfectly normal to yell at dead people who've been haunting you, you are directly contributing to mentality that makes people with mental illnesses be treated by witch doctors and greedy, scam artist, fucking scumbags. So don't say that it's okay for someone to yell at ghosts, and that people(Who are suffering) don't need help from actual fucking Doctors.

I'm creating a thread in RotW. Thank you for inspiring me.

first off that is not my intention. I'm just saying that IF it really bothers the OP, I can help him equip himself with some bullshit Asian belief so he can fight bullshit with bullshit. It's called the placebo effect. You feel you have something to fight whatever it is you're afraid of/bothering you, and thus whatever it is disappears by itself. You can not expect the OP to call a doctor can you? I am not, in any shape or form, linking my post to any kind of mental disorders, hallucinations and its treatment. I am only saying "ghosts do exist". I am not saying people need to be taken to priests/psychics instead of mental hospitals. I think you're just feeling pissed off right now and start assuming stuffs that is not true. Please don't act like you know what I'm thinking. It's annoying.

Hey OP, I visited maybe 6-10 colleges, and I'd say half of the claim to have haunted dorms. My current university has a dorm that's "haunted." Like all ghost stories, it was a girl that was murdered. This particular ghost was sexually assaulted, so it haunts male students primarily. And funny enough, the only time people notice "strange things" is when they're intoxicated.

Students invent these stories for fun. Incoming underclassmen buy into the stories, they can play pranks on them, and it makes for fun story-telling. There's a reason these ghosts are never given a name, and when they are, you can't find any record of their existence. Trust me, you'll be fine. Don't stress yourself out.

So my AD gave me the floor master and I went into my room where she supposedly died. And it was nice. Seems nice. Left the door unlocked and went down stairs and came back up and it was still unlocked. Nothing weird.

The only thing an ra has been bugging me about is the light. We went into a room and the light was on so we shut it off. But she sent me of a snap chat tonight a few hours later (because her room is across from that dorm) and the light was on. The building is locked and no one lives in there. Just probably a bulb or power issue but shes trying to freak me out

Well I think that's a load of crap, but I would absolutely love to experience this and solve this mystery
