Never spoken to this girl before

There is this girl that I always see around school, she is a year below me which doesn't really matter. I have liked her for a while but never spoken to her and I don't know much about her and she doesn't know much about me. I just wanted to ask how I could start speaking to her and not make it awkward?

It's not because of different gender really, it's just the that I don't really know how to start a conversation with someone i've never spoke to before since I have never been in the position of needing to before.

Make a conversation then. Anything happen lately? Do you need something from her? Just make an excuse. You could even drop your phone next to her and then say something.

There are so many reasons to talk, it's just a matter of courage to actually do it. You can talk about pretty much everything, but you can start with a simple hey what are you doing?
And tell her you are bored or something

If you really want to speak to her, create some kind of a scenario. For example pretend you're looking for someone you know in her class or you need her help with an academic survey or something.
