As for your advice, liking someone more than your girlfriend is one thing. Falling for your friend is one thing. However judging by appearances is another.

If you really want to make a real decision, judge them on personality and the type of person they are.

Also realize, going for the friend may never work out the way you want it and could jeopardize everything you two have.

Honestly,isn't that just saying "stay in a relationship that you're not happy with?" I'm not saying it's not an asshole move on his part,but if he's really not attracted to his girlfriend the way he's attracted to his friend,it just seems pointless to be in the relationship,since sooner or later it's going to set sail anyway. Asking him to judge them on their personality and the type of person they are probably wouldn't work out for him,considering how much he prefers looks over personality.

On topic though -
From what you're saying,it's just showing that you're only feeling the emotional comfort of being with your current girlfriend,which probably wouldn't work out for you on the long run,since you've pretty much said that you prefer the attractiveness of your friend over your girl's. However,if looks isn't a problem or isn't important in the current situation,you should rethink on your current stance if it's just lust or if you do feel attracted to your friend more in an emotional level.

Though it'd be hilarious if you get rejected by the new girl,lol.
