Who is the best guitarist alive and active today? We all know Hendrix is a God -- but he's long dead.
My votes:
John Frusciante. The man, the legend.

There are literally hours of amazing Frusciante footage, so I just had to pick one, watching others is very worth it
John Mayer

This version of Gravity is so exquisite, no compilation needed. The guitar bleeds love. Even if you're not a JM fan, watch it for the guitar, it will make you want to play. (Solo starts at 4:50)
Eric Clapton

Clapton, well, being Clapton.
I'm going with John Frusciante.

John Browne is a goddamned guitar god given form, his right hand is out of this world. He has more groove than every disco in the 80s combined. He is the only man I'd ever want a handjob from.

Tosin Abasi knows how to guitar. He know how to guitar so well he made an entire band that revolves around his guitar. Seen 'em live and it was great.

Pin and Dan are mathematical on their guitars I swear it makes stupid people intelligent.

Here's some more Pin this time he's with Leah playing a song from his other band Aliases. Naturally they're math as fuck.

I would also put forward Acle Kahney seeing as he had a hand in pioneering a whole new sound. Plus he makes gorgeous sounds on his guitar that vibrate my nipples in such a way no guitarist has before. Too bad I couldn't find a better video.

Definitely Tony Iommi with his riffs from "Atom and Evil", "Heaven and Hell" and others.
Yngwie Malmsteen for his mad speed.
And of course, Tom Morello.

Tony Iommi the riff god, Hendrix or Malmsteen for technicality, and Dimebag Darrel for being a god at all things groove and metal for the newer generations

I would actually put forward Robert Cray
He had this air about him when I saw him that I have never seen on TV or anything. Quite special. Not confidence just that it all seemed so natural

Horatio Nelson

David Gilmour! His solo in "Comfortably Numb" is insane.

Pretty much a lot of the greatest guitarists are alive, but I'd have to place my bets on Yngwie Malsteem. Guy's nuts with a guitar.

I was a little skeptical about the JM solo. But I listened to it and my jaw dropped. Holy crow. And I had goosebumps the whole time. Damn, does make me want to pick up guitar again.

Right? He can seriously play. A lot of people dislike him, but you can't deny that him of his guitar skills.

If the guy can play behind his back, he's got talent :)

God, how could I leave out Santana in my OP…

Santana played Woodstock before he even released his first album. Nobody knew him, he came and blew everyone away, tripping on LSD the whole time. That takes some skill lol
He's also playing an SG in this video, which is pretty cool, he really only plays Paul Reed Smith guitars now.

I would put Jonny Buckland - Coldplay or The Edge - U2
Despite both of them not being guitarists noted for their use of fast finger work, their use of effects and other techniques are what captures the bands' sound that they perform in!
Sure there are better out there but that's my suggestion :)
