Start with the lightest you can find, tampax pearl is often recommended.
Relax and take your time, it's easier to insert when your muscles are loose and you're relaxed. If you're tense, then everything tightens up.
You can also find something to act as a lubricant for insertion if you need, I've never needed so don't have any recommendations there.

you may be pushing against your hymen. if you are you may need to use pads for a while instead.

I suggest Playtex Gentle Glide Unscented. I started when I was 9 and wore pads for 2 years. Tampons scared me but my friend gave me a Gentle Glide unscented and now that is all I use. Get a multipak with Lite and Regular mixed and try them out. I still sleep in pads though because TSS scares the fuck out of me.
Good Luck!

I have noticed no difference between all of the different tampons I use. If they hurt, you're just straight up insertin them wrong because it's not suppose to hurt. try inserting them deeper, because it be uncomfortable if you walk around when they're not all the way in. or maybe you're inserting them at a weird angle, or maybe going too fast.

Has anyone ever tried using a mooncup, I have one and have used it like 4 times in the last year, and they are great, you don't have to keep carrying pads or tampons and I only empty it twice a day, once around noon and at bedtime, when you get it right, you dont even know you are wearing it but if you are still tight, you may not want to try them yet, you can use them like for 5 years before you need to buy a new one and since you only loose about 3 or 4 ounces of blood a period, they will probably never be full on any one single day.

Yes I use Mooncup have done for a year or so. Its less hassle and less waste. My mum's really environmental so she's made me wear washable clothe pads. It was embarresing a bit when I was 13 if my friends found out but now I can see its a lot less waste.

I had the same problem at first... I tried playtex gentle glide and I still couldn't use them. Finally I found playtex sport and they are perfect! They are very slim and narrow at the tip and it gets wider towards the base but it's not uncomfortable since the tip is slim and inserts easily

I would recommend trying the smallest tampon you can find and see whether that does fit.
If it doesn't there might be another problem.

I normally only wear a tampon when im either swimming or doing games at school, all the other times i use Always pads.
When auntie flow is here and i have swimming or games i use Tampax but it does hurt if you dont get it inside you right. when im putting one into me i usually go to the bathroom and i lift my right leg ip onto the bath or loo and i get the tampon and like bend forward a little and kinda aim the Tampax towards my belly button and press the inserter tube os it goes in at the right angle, it takes a bit of practice but yu will get it, and i KNOW how uncomfortable it feels if you get it in wrong too!! I hope this helps Shaune :)
