hey so my metabolism is slowing down and im gaining weight really fast
So, is puberty coming to an end for me? I'm 15 years old by the way.:yes:

I wouldnt say puberty is over for you just yet. You probably arent eating the right foods and thats causing you to gain weight.just try changing your diet up a little

I'm turning 15 soon and i haven't noticed this. While i do eat a lot, probably more than i should, i'm also a club swimmer (a typical practice is a little over 3 1/2 miles worth, once a day every day) so maybe you should establish a workout routine for yourself.

If, when you say you are gaining weight, you mean that literally in that scales read higher when you stand on them and there is no evidence of growing fat then I would not worry about metabolic rate. At 15 height increase or an increase in muscle are both likely to cause an increase in body weight and, while we tend to measure height and it is a little more obvious, the extra muscle mass that comes towards the end of puberty is not so easy to measure.

On the other hand if you mean you are growing fat then the most likely explanation is that you have been eating at the rate required to fuel the growth spurt, your growth in height is slowing or has stopped and consequently you are now eating more than you need.

So, how do you tell the difference? Extra muscle will tend to be put on evenly round the body and will include the shoulders etc. Fat in a male tends to be put on round the belly. So, if your belly is still flat (it doesn't need to show a six pack) then I'd assume the weight is due to muscle, if it is getting round or sticks out noticably then you are getting fat and need to match your food intake to your exercise level.

I too have gone from stick skinny to plumpy in 1 yr but do feel good about it....Ttill I was 16 I used to be really stick skinny until ..then suddenly I started putting on weight....It was really embarrassing, everybody saying "you've put on and patting my tummy and alll...I was devastated, I wanted my washboard abs.to show off at beach...After much thought i saw...this is normal weight gain of grwoing up. I gave up dieting I did not gain further.....my waist went from a skinny 26 in to healthy 32 in....I now weigh 64kg from 48kg at 5 foot 10....I now go to beach...go shirtless...my tummy may not have rips it had earlier and may be shiny and plump but that is the normal....I even go skinnny dipping (i do not strip nude...I keep my briefs on).....added advantage is my butt which was non existent before has now grown to be a really cute bubble butt...my GF loves it too........I met my GF also after I stopped being skinny.....I do think that I will put on some more when I start my freshman year (Freshman15!!1) but I feel it will round me up a bit and feel no apprehension but kind of look forward for it...(partying and food and stuff too!!!)

Like somebody else said, make sure you actually see if it's muscle or fat. I know from what I've read and seen (which isn't much), that a lot of people either lose fat and gain muscle, or lose muscle and gain fat, or lose weight completely. It depends on the person really, but usually one of the former and latter are normal during puberty.

Make sure you're eating proper though. Eating a lot of protein will cause muscle gain, but eating TOO much will also cause fat to be gained. But I wouldn't worry if I were you, you could lose it just as fast as you gain it!

Hi Senpai, I'd listen to what Hermes said here. An excellent response.
I myself gained about 6-7kg over about 4 months when I was about 15 years old. I was doing a substantial amount of exercise at that time, with mountain climbing, abseiling, swimming, canoeing, etc. I probably sprouted half to one inch in height and grew a bit broader around the shoulders during this time as well. The weight gain would not have been predominantly from fat. You should be a bit more wary about the actual composition, than of the absolute numbers alone.
