Ever been in an accident? How bout some really close calls? Share your stories! I have two:
1) Yesterday I cut across like 3 lanes at once on the freeway because I failed to think ahead and nobody was letting me in. I had to floor it and left everyone in a big black cloud of diesel smoke
2) Today a driver failed to get into the exit lane until the very last moment, failed to check his blind spot, then almost drove into me. I had to slam on the brakes, and the guy cut over the gore point.
Thankfully, I've never been in an accident!

This isn't actually something that happened to me, but my dad saw a pretty gory accident once. This SUV was speeding down a highway, and it lost control, rolled a couple times, until it stopped. My dad left his truck and he saw the windshield was covered in blood. The passenger was pinned and her legs were squirting blood big time. Thankfully, the ambulance arrived on time and the rest of the passengers were relatively unharmed.

ohhhhh here we go...
In just the past 2 months that I've had my license I've done the following:
- went 112 MPH (electronic governor) and blew the engine, totaling the 02 Grand Prix
- backed out of my drive way too fast and broke my side mirror on a garbage can.
- went too fast on a gravel road and scratched paint
- drove up part of a snow bank (no damage)

Drove in the wrong direction on the freeway during a police chase (oh wait that was a video game) Mostly being stopped from stepping out into traffic. Took a tumble riding on the back of my dad's motorcycle when someone cut him off - no injuries. Was in a car wreck when I was 9 - no injuries.

My first car was a 2006 Touareg. Awesome car, probably saved me some pain in my wreck.
I was driving down a twisty road toward my boyfriend's house. It winds back around a few farms and is generally a giant 45mph zone. I was going along at about 40 when I was coming up to a blind curve. A guy in his Porsche was hauling in the opposite direction and took the turn fast enough that he couldn't stay in his lane. I was faced with a split second choice:
A: Head on the guy
B: Leave the road and hope for the best
I chose option B. I chose wrong.
I didn't realize there was almost a 4 foot drop off the side of the road, so when I started to slide off, the VW just started rolling. There was enough momentum to take it over about 3-4 times. When the car finally stopped it was on it's roof and severely crushed down. Ended up getting out with a few broken ribs, my right leg broken in 3 spots and a fractured wrist.
The second wreck I was in was a bit different. I was with my boyfriend, in his car, with him driving, when a deer jumped out into the road. Luckily, we didn't hit it, however an oncoming truck did. In fact, they hit it hard enough for the deer to go flying the opposite direction, into our windshield. Managed to get out of that with a few broken ribs due to the airbag.
Obviously totalled the Touareg, also ended up totaling his WRX.

-Nearly took out a crotch rocket and a few other things near my boyfriend's house because I'm not used to turns :whoops:
-Nearly swerved off the road because my boyfriend was being an ASSHOLE and let go of the wheel trying to get me to 'drive' in the passenger's seat. Not sure why. Don't think he'll be doing that again, because we both nearly had a heart attack and I got pretty upset at him.
-Nearly hit some deer a few times
This was all yesterday

I have had two rear end accidents.
Also, on the highway near my house, there is a bend that goes down hill and swoops to the left sharply. I came down there doing 90km/h and spun the car out in the ice and wet. Ended up doing a couple of 360's and ended up in the right direction and kept going. No joke, it was some serious professional drifter shit. Lucky there was no one around to hit.
I felt really stupid and went and did that again and nearly went into a road barrier.
I didn't hit anything but my suspension bushes were fucked somehow.
Car got written off the next day anyway when someone rear ended it. So I didn't have to fix the ruined suspension :P

Only accidents I can recall are from when I was a kid; my mom's old Cadillac was rear-ended once and so was my dad's minivan.
Nothing has happened to met yet thankfully... I have to be a super careful driver because if my parents' insurance goes up because of me, they'll kill me.

I have close calls every day. Whether its soccer moms drifting into my lane texting or assholes just being assholes, I deal with it.
I consider myself to be a rather competent driver, however...
-Recently while driving in the twistys in my Golf I came over a blind hill at 75+ (50mph road) only to find a stopped mail truck. Avoided that pretty easily. Good tires + good brakes + good reaction.
-Got my Accord up on two wheels on another road. Briefly, but kinda terrifying.
-Swerved around someone who brake checked me only to realise I cut off a cop doing ~100mph.
-I frequent 100++ on empty Interstates.
I have no issues with speed as long as it puts no one in danger. I also believe that it is important to know a vehicle's limits.

My parents and brother were in one before with a lorry driving bellend who drove off and complained to avoid trouble apparently and my dad has had loads of mini accidents in his job as a postman, including a woman who reversed into him and was apparently crying in fear that her husband would kill her or something... Ugh

I nearly hit someone every other week in the college parking lot because assholes will be going to fast, or don't pay attention when backing out. People who pull out at the last minute and even those who never put on their blinker I usually have close calls with.

I was siting in my car waiting for my friend at his house. He comes riding down the street at close to 100 mph then pulls his e-brake and rolls his truck like 6 time almost crushing my car but he hits the car I front of mine. He was fine somehow :)

My parents and I nearly got into a wreck on the highway once. In the next lane over, someone had to slam on their brakes, still rear-ending the person in front of them. Then I think they got rear-ended too. This all happened right next to our car

My first car was a 1998 Toyota Avalon. I loved that car <3. Sadly some idiot in a Honda CR-V pulled out in front of me and I t-boned him going 30 or 35. My airbags deployed. He was nice and admitted fault at least, but it totaled my car.

Last night I was in my Dad's Silverado and was in an exit only lane. I wasn't paying attention directly in front (I think I was looking out the side mirror) so I failed to notice that the off ramp was coned off until my dad started yelling at me to get over. I reacted badly, because instead of moving over, I went for my natural instinct of literally slamming on the brakes. I hit the cones and my dad SCREAMED at me, but nobody got hurt so yay.
I have to blame Caltrans for not posting any signs until after the cones. Fucking idiots. three other cars behind me made the same mistake I did.

Well here we go with my shitty driving haha-
- Drove through a corn field at night and broke my shocks, and drive shaft, going into a hay bale.
- Went 115mph down a highway at night, blowing the engine in my Subaru
- Got hit by a person running a red light while driving my moms car, totaling it
- Went the wrong way up a parking ramp once (Whoops)
- Drove 75mph on a windy country road almost rolling my car, and hitting deer multiple times (the road is only 35mph)
- almost missed an exit, causing me to take it way to fast
And...
- Hit my girlfriends mom's car backing out of their driveway

Though I've been in some accidents when I was little, I don't remember them. Once we got rear-ended by a school bus. Everyone was okay but it was especially scary because I was very young and my mom was pregnant with my sister.
Maybe two or three weeks ago, me and this girl who I was in a show with left the theater to go get dinner. We went to cross the street, one car stopped for us and from the other side, the nearest car was very far back and we had plenty of time. We got almost halfway across but the car that was far back started speeding - I'm not sure if they wanted to get in front of us or what - and almost hit me. The other girl was a few feet behind me so she was fine, but I was about 3 inches away from the car when it stopped. This was in Boston, we actually have a nickname for our terrible drivers. Massholes. (Massachusetts + assholes)

Nice "handling" of the situation...;)
I've never been in an actual accident (lucky for them, I think the Fates decided I was going to have enough scars from cutting) but I've seen some bad ones. Let the gruesome countdown begin:
• I've seen the scene of which a Skyline flipped over a cliff. We looked at the car from the top of the cliff (±400m above) and I was the first to point out the fact that:"Mom, why'd the guy make his windshield to tint red? I can't see through."
• I've watched as a car got hit by a cow.
• There was one time that my uncle told us about his days as a paramedic, when once he saw a car that was perfectly fine, except for the front, which was nonexistant. There were four teenage girls inside, and he figured out from the way the front passennd driver couldn't feel their legs that their legs were severed, and the only thing that kept them alive was that what was left of the hood was pinning the wounds closed, so the blood couldn't escape. He told them to stay put, because while the two in the back had only a broken kneecap and a broken leg respectively (which they could survive), they were a part of the puzzle that kept the front girls alive. Then the one climbed out, her friend followed, and could only watch their horrified friends scream and bleed out as the fountains of blood that was once their knees shot out heir life's blood. They died in seconds.
• I've seen a scene where a truck ran of the road, nothing bad, and a traffic cop pulled up behind him. Before the cop even got out, another truck sandwiched the traffic car between the two of them. The largest piece of human they got from the dead traffic cop was a foot and an ankle that were still attached. The car didn't resemble anything synthetic afterward.
Now for some non-traffic-related accidents:
A guy who was kicked square in the face. By a horse. Died of drowning o his own blood.
And a happy ending:
Once I was in the ER, when a guy with a helmet on came in. He complained of a dull pain in his chest. The doctors were shocked; they had ever seen anything like it, yet his story proved it: he was doing stunts on his motorcycle, when he accidentally ran over the back of a Beetle so fast that he was flung into a tree. He got down and rode the whole 16 miles to the hospital.
He had a tree branch stuck in his nick. It penetrated a lung and broke into his chest cavity, and was deathly near to penetrating his aortic chambers. He only complained if a throbbing feeling and slight hitches in breathing. He survived.

Was crossing a road as a child at a pedestrian crossing. A mini van failed to slow down, as it raced around a corner. Struck me on the side. Drove off without stopping.
I luckily got away without any serious injuries - just cuts and bruises. Was I even one step ahead of where I was standing at the time of impact? That would have been the end of it...

I had another accident last night, worst one I've ever had. I was driving down a back country road last night after it had rained for a few hours. I was going probably too fast for the conditions, and took a corner too fast and ended up rolling my car. I took out a road sign, and rolled a good 2-3 times. I had two friends with me and one had gotten cut up pretty badly, and the other one just hurt her back. It was really scary, hope I never do that again.

I was waiting at a red turn arrow to turn from Street A (a moderately used boulevard) onto Street B. The cycle for the traffic light goes: Street B through traffic, Street A turning traffic, then finally Street A through traffic.
However, once my turn light turned green and I started to turn, some dude in a volvo started to go forward from the straight lane. We got pretty close to hitting before I slammed on my brakes. I just gave him the "what the fuck man" look and drove off, but I was pretty shaken up.

I can make a huge list, lol. I'll start w/ things that have most recently happened.
- I was in my moms car getting gas & someone was behind me waiting, so I had to do a crazy ass maneuver to get out, I tried flipping a bitch & thought I was going to make it, but I didn't. No damage to the car, thank god, maybe just a little bit of curb rash on the rim. The sad thing is that the whole time I thought I was going to make it the car was warning me that I was way too close & that I was going to hit, lol.
- Yesterday I was driving my friends car & I totally forgot to release the E-Brake, I only went a block though, lol.
- I was in my car at Walgreens & I went to park & thought I had enough room, but I ended up scraping the curb so hard omg the noise I thought I ripped off my bumper, but literally no damage, tybg.
- I took my car to the MAZDA dealership to get my M A Z D A serviced & they washed it. I left thinking everything was normal, I start getting on the freeway & I notice that my car is taking more effort than usual to get up to speed, which I thought was weird since I have a v6. Turns out my fucking E-Brake is on, I probably took an inch off my pads lmao. Oh & the emphasis on MAZDA is because I later found out that they overfilled my oil by a whole quart. Common, shouldn't the fucking Mazda dealership know how to service a Mazda? I blame my mom lol, she told me to go there for the "free carwash". Well shit, it should have been free considering it cost me $70 for a new air filter & an oil change.
- I've scraped my car countless times, omg the noise makes me wanna cry every time lol.
- I've ran out of gas twice, two days in a row, with the same friend. I made her push the car lol. I started freaking out because I was going about 45mph then all the sudden my transmission started downshifting & my dash illuminated w/ hundreds of lights lol. I swear I had gas, I put in $10 the day before & barely drove. The next day I was taking my friend home & my car did the same thing, lol. That was my fault though, I was too lazy to get gas before hand. :p

There are many, many close calls with me. I ride my bike everywhere (what can I say, I'm a bike addict) :D I encounter many of my close calls at street crossings, I typically bike across without looking (Pedestrians get right-of-way). I usually encounter people going through red lights, or turning without looking.

I've been in about 5 or 6 crashes in my life. I was driving in 2 of them, but neither were my fault as proven by the police. The 3 big ones were:
- I was about 5 and my parents, my sister and I were in the car on a wet night. The car in front of us lost control and went to the wrong side of the road. a car coming the other way hit them but missed us, but a second car coming the other way hit us on front driver side (Australia is left side drive like Britain) and we went in a ditch. I was uninjured and m sister and parents all went to hospital for minor injuries. The poor old yellow Toyota was written off.
- My 2 happened only a few month apart in 2011 and 2012. The first one I was driving an old car of my parents, it was a Nissan station wagon. I made a right hand turn on a green arrow at traffic lights and got hit by someone going the opposite way on a red light. I got spun around when I was hit passenger side near the rear. the police said at the speed I was hit I was lucky not to land on my roof. My girlfriend at the time was in the car and was hysterical while I was oddly calm which was a role reversal for us!
- The third was in the replacement car of the station wagon. It's the car I drive now which got repaired. I was going through an intersection with a green light and someone turned right in the opposite direction and drove straight into me. This guy did nothing for the stereotypical suggestion that Asians are bad drivers! I had no car for 6 weeks while it was repaired. Fortunately I have never been injured in any of these crashes and none have been my fault.
I've had so many near misses now I've lost count. Yesterday I was nearly cut off on the way to work, only that I became awake to it.

I can relate to Hannah and her Masshole experience. Up here in Maine, all the Massholes and Vermonsters invade Maine-iac territory during the summer. My mom got rear-ended by a Masshole. The only thing that gets rid of these idiots is exit 44 (Portland Toll). It can be completely bypassed and the tourists don't know that. It causes a massive traffic jam in the tourist season.

I've been in a couple car accidents but nothing bad.
I've had a few close calls on my bike though. Drivers in Toronto aren't very respectful of cyclists. I had the right of way to make a left turn and a driver just started going straight through the intersection anyway and nearly hit me. I swerved so hard I nearly wiped out. My friends were across the street just watching and they thought I was going to die.
Another time I was just going down a bike path next to a train track. I saw a little kid in front of me who clearly was just learning to ride a bike so I swerved to avoid him (he was not even close to going in a straight line, not his fault). I ended up on the train tracks, where the tire on my bike got caught and through me straight over my handlebars and I rather impressively hit a concrete barrier. The mother of this kid was absolutely horrified but I just got up and laughed it off. I was more concerned about hitting her kid than what could have happened to me. Thankfully, I always wear a helmet or that barrier would have really hurt.

When I was riding down some country roas a truck was comming the other way, he was in the middle of the road and didne move over, I didn't see him early enough and he didn't se me early enough because of the way the road was lay out, the only option I had was to slam on the breaks and ditch it into the forest on the side of the road. Thankfully I was thrown clear when my front tyre dug into the dirt and my bike didnt come tpo any major damage, just one or two scuffs, nether of us wanted to involve our insurance companys over it since nothing bad really came out of it, and it was impossible to tell who waqs at fault, I think it was both of us, we where both going above the realistic safe speed for that road.

Ive had several trucks and a mustang do flips at the drag strip road. luckily, none of them hit my truck.
Probably hit 20 deer with the brush guard, also saving my truck and giving free venison!
Four wheeling on the state roads, pulling out in front of people and ignoring stop signs got me beeped at and brakes slammed on many many times
Drag racing my friend with four wheelers, popped out the clutch, sends the front end shy high, no steering, winding back roads, and a ditch.
t boned a truck on the four wheeler, sent me flying over top the bed, landed on the other side, against a tree.
and went trail riding with a chevy caviller, hit a sapling on one side, rolled it twice down a hill. then had a backhoe pull a wheelie while pulling it out upside down.
in none if them did i get any serious injuries.

Last weekend I had my first significant incident. :\ I accidentally backed up into my neighbors car because my windows were all fogged up but I was too impatient to wait. I only noticed when I heard the screech from the metal-on-metal contact. I freaked the fuck out but my mom was all nonchalant and went out to check for damage. As far as we were concerned there wasn't and my neighbor wasn't running outside, so we kinda just drove off and kept our lips sealed haha.

So I have been in only one major wreck. One morning about 2 years ago I think, I flipped my truck on its roof. However there were some good things that happened. I wore my seatbelt (Like I always do), I was in a solid metal truck that was lifeted enough that the burm that flipped me hit the frame rather than my door, I had a back window to crawl out. And I was wearing a jacket, I almost never wore a jacket but that day it was a bit chilly. *Cough* Negative thirty *Cough* Well I was almost to town, maybe a mile out and I hit a small patch of ice. Well when I sneeze my whole body jerks. I decided to sneeze at this point, jerking the wheels and sending my truck into a irigation ditch. What felt like a minute was probably closer to a handful of seconds. I crawled out of the truck, though dont remember it. As I was sitting on my now upside down truck, i realized I was soaked from the irrigation ditch. It was probably 10 minutes before anyone came by and it was the Vet going hunting. He slammed on his breaks and asked if I was fine. I told him I am great, however my brother is going to be pissed. He lent me his phone and I called my brother who responded with. :What in God's name did you do? I will be there shortly." He then called the Ambulance and they came to check me out. (Side Note* My brother is a Tow Truck Driver, I am an EMT, and my mom is a Nurse. We have seen a few of these types of wrecks.) When the Fire Department arived, the guy asked the standard, is there anyone inside to which I responded no. Than he asked how I got out and looking at the truck I understood, the doors were pinned underwater in the banks and the back window was still closed. I can't tell you how I got out since the back window was also locked. When the Ambulance showed up, I was relieved the Paramedic on duty was a wonderful guy. He knows me personally and would trust me when i told him I was OK. He still did the mandatory check to make sure I wasn't cut and didnt know it. Than it was time for the Police talk with me. I got charged with "Reckless endangerment and Trespassing." However the Trespassing charge was dropped because the landowner never pressed charges.
When my brother flipped my truck over and gained entry to the door, he started it and took it to the shop. It had a crack in the windshield and had some minor dents in the door and the gas tank was crushed. I miss that truck. Sorry for such a long story but it needed details.

I dont know bicycle crashes count here but ive had my spotlight moments.
Broke my collarbone a little over a year ago riding over some wet tram tracks in too shallow of an angle. The front wheel got caught in the tracks and i crashed at maybe 20 mph. Broke my left collarbone.
Once i rode through an intersection without caution. There were two cars going behind eachother. I was super lucky that i managed to ride between them intstead of crashing in eitherone.
Latest close call was when i rode home from school about two months ago. I rode through red lights and almost crashed into a car.
I should probably be more careful instead of thinking that im invisible. I am probably giving cyclists a bad name but whatever, intolerant cyclists and motorists will always hate eachother.

It was my fault, but once I got hit by a car riding on my bike. No injuries though.

I have a couple:
1) I was riding in my friend's car after a sleepover and just stopped at a red light and a car slammed into the back of us. No serious injuries, but very traumatic and I think both cars had to be taken to the shop.
2) This is a bit less extreme, but we were doing like 70 on the interstate in the pitch black night and this HUGE white dog ran out in front of our car and we couldn't slow down and we hit it and it literally went flying, flipping several times. Our blinker was completely out, and our bumper was like smashed in.

I can not even keep count of the number of times my Mum has accidentally reversed or bumped into another car (lightly, no major accidents), it's gone to a point where it feels normal. My dad is much better and he even rides a motorbike.

In 7th grade I was with a classmate and we were in the care with his mom, sister, and aunt on the way to a ski area. Aunt is driving, and on the way there we hit a turn, she runs into some black ice, and we go flying off the road.
Somehow the car ends up perpendicular to the lanes of traffic and when we hit the median (a big ditch at this spot of the road) the right side tires catch the edge and the car gets flung into the air.
We flip completely over, landing on the wheels again. We had been airborne and pulled a complete 360 in the car. I don't know how, but not one of us was injured.
