Hello I am 16 years old and I am feeling a bit awkward about how I should go about asking to get circumcised.
I was born in America but where my family is from, circumcision is somewhat of a rite of passage and is supposedly what turns a "boy" into a "man". I have always found that belief to be extremely ridiculous and I never really thought anything of it. When I first found out about this tradition when I was 8, I was somewhat scared but I thought "Well if it happens, then it happens". It never happened.
Now I am 16 and I obviously know a lot more from when I was about 8. The reason why I am considering it now is because I feel left out at the fact that everyone in my family is circumcised and I don't know any friends at school that actually have a foreskin still. I know most of the benefits of the procedure and all the risks, and I have finally decided that I want this for myself, but here is where the problem comes in.
I really have nobody to ask about getting this done. My mom is no longer alive due to some health issues, so that's one parent that won't help. I have an absolutely horrible hatred towards my dad and I can barely stay in the same room with him, let alone ask him to get me circumcised. If I were to talk to the rest of my family about it that would just be even more awkward for me. There's nobody I can really talk to about getting it done. Another problem is I have no medical insurance, which is also one of the reasons I hate my dad's guts. I mean, how can you be so irresponsible as to not pay your child's health insurance?
I just want some advice on how I can go about doing this and what I can do to make myself feel better about being left out from my family, and even my friends. Without drowning myself in video games because lately, that's what I've been doing whenever I have issues and its not healthy all.
