Undetected Malware? (http://youtu.be/siV0VDYpGTI)
Does my PC have undetected malware or do I just need an upgrade? Can't get Adblock or a new browser -_-

Have you tried Malwarebytes to detect any malware in your system? If it will not allow you to install any programs like new anti-virus or anti-malware programs, it means that you have a malware in your system and most likely you will need to get a friend who has a USB and install an anti-malware program or worst case scenario, reformat.

I have Avast and have used its boot-time scans many times, to find no malware

Have you tried accessing the Administrator account and make some changes like installing a new browser of some sort? You should have full access of the Administrator account, if ever the Administrator account is protected by a password (which usually the case is not since you will need to add it manually) this means as well that your computer might be infected with Malware.

For Avast, I don't really trust Avast enough to detect Malware. Try installing Malwarebytes and uninstalling it if it did not detect any malwares as so far with my experience with Avast is that it won't detect all malwares unlike Malwarebytes.

Hmm, yea this used to happen to me all the time. Its most likely malware, but ever since I got the free version of Avira Im fine. Its a little like Norton, you dont even need to scan, as soon as Avira detects malware or anything it sends u a notification.

1. I have admin privileges
2. See the original post - I cannot download a new browser, or anything, for that matter

Could it be that malware is now so tricky that it is undetectable?

Installing a mainstream browser would not work, the malware is much smarter than that. Try something much less targeted, like Maxthon. But again, he can not install a new browser, as previously stated.

You should have full access of the Administrator account, if ever the Administrator account is protected by a password (which usually the case is not since you will need to add it manually) this means as well that your computer might be infected with Malware. Not necessarily. If there is a password it would probably be of a human's doings. If not the case, then it would be a serious case of infection. But why mention this...?

For Avast, I don't really trust Avast enough to detect Malware. Try installing Malwarebytes and uninstalling it if it did not detect any malwares as so far with my experience with Avast is that it won't detect all malwares unlike Malwarebytes. Trust is not a factor in objective (rather than subjective) problem solving. That said, truly, Avast! isn't always the best against malware. With Avast!, put PUP detection at the max and heuristics at max as well. You'll have more luck trying to do something manually, take a look at installed extensions, startup programs, services, processes, AppData... It will probably be a headache.

Does my PC have undetected malware or do I just need an upgrade? Can't get Adblock or a new browser -_- You do have malware and shouldn't get an upgrade. Sorry to say this, but usually these things appear after carelessly installing programs through download managers, fishy programs or sites. If the behaviour stays, it's only a matter of time until that new PC also gets the same problem (or a worse one!).

But at least know I know how you look like! ^^

And why is that?

And why is that?I'm very sorry that this will inevitably sound rude, but it's for the better.

Many download managers have those dialogs where they ask to install additional programs. Some people just go right through them and click 'OK' for everything until then end of the installation. Sometimes the dialogs try to trick the user, such as disabling the checkboxes to "set as default" or something of the sort, while in reality the correct option is "Decline" on the not-intuitive left side of the dialog.

Other means to acquire malware is irresponsible loading of websites, downloads of homemade programs or worms. Be always careful on what permissions you give to each website and whether you should trust it or not. Never trust programs, such as game hackers, that have a virus "only for functionality". Only open emails that you know the sender.

In few words, through optimal use comes optimal experience.

I have experience. I accidentally got something on an old machine and now only get stripped-down downloads. I decline the unnecessary stuff. The only stuff I download is updates

Andrew, before you touch these, I would access them from this site: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&ei=nBBVU4XLKtTTsASi74GYAQ&url=http://download.cnet.com/Advanced-SystemCare/3000-2086_4-10407614.html&cd=5&ved=0CDMQFjAE&usg=AFQjCNHLPoXYTCsiltWo5nNr1rwE6z9I7Q

The other links look a bit sketchy, but I think the actual software is fine.

People, I've said it before and I'll say it again - Malwarebytes seems to have rid my PC of all malware. Everything seems ok (though my PC is still a piece of junk)

Ok, this is somewhat related. My computer freezes up (always has) occasionally. Would maxing out my RAM to 4 GB prevent this?

Viruses are detected by the anti virus program checking all the files on your computer against a database. When a new virus comes out or if the virus has not been noticed by anyone it will not be in the database so the software will not detect it.
