There are some things you just don't do. Making bomb threats in an airport is one. Terrorism messages directed at airlines on Twitter is another.

That's the lesson a 14-year-old Dutch girl apparently has learned after she sent the following to the official American Airlines Twitter account on Sunday morning: "Hello my name's Ibrahim and I'm from Afghanistan. I'm part of Al Qaida and on June 1st I'm gonna do something really big bye."

[...]

After receiving the original tweet, the American Airlines account replied: "Sarah, we take these threats very seriously. Your IP address and details will be forwarded to security and the FBI."

I cannot believe the stupidity of some people on Twitter...

I'd throw the book at her, personally. If I were a judge, I'd want to make an example to other idiots who might consider the same thing.

What's even worse is now more people are doing it since she did. Or maybe that's not bad... getting all the people stupid enough to do that arrested sounds like a plan.

What an idiot. Did she not realise that with IP address tracking and all nowadays no one is totally anonymous online, especially not Twitter/Facebook.

Eh, sucks for her. I'd like to feel sorry, but I don't. Sometimes you gotta learn when not to be a big dumb idiot.

This is why the amount of characters you can tweet out should correspond with your IQ level, because I know she wouldn't have gotten out 4 words if that was the case:rolleyes:

Read somewhere yesterday she had actually been taken in for questioning over it.. Seems a bit over the top of a reaction imo.

i don't think it's over the top because this stuff isn't the kind of thing to joke about. the fact that she tweeted it directly to the airline shows how stupid she is, of course they'll take it seriously. if they don't, then people are gonna think it's okay. and what happens when idiots think bad jokes are okay? they take it too far. we don't want people sending out terrorist threats "jokingly" because we won't be able to tell the real threats from the fake ones.

this girl deserves everything she gets, no matter her age. she's old enough to joke about acts that have killed people, so she's old enough to get punished for it.
