Hi guys. I know it says "geeks gamers and nerds" on the subforum description but I assume at least half of you guys are tech-y? I hope you could help me with my iPhone 5. So basically I lost connection to my Wi-Fi a handful of times during the day (randomly). Note that it is not my Wi-Fi acting up and I can still connect to the net just fine from any other devices. Here's the thing that bugs me; every time I lost connection, I need to turn my iPhone's Wi-Fi off and back on again for about 50 times before it could finally pick up my Wi-Fi's signal and connect. I could well spend 2 minutes every time I lost connection just trying to reconnect. I am a huge Sims FreePlay fan and without Wi-Fi I can't check on my Sims D: so... yeah, what did I do wrong? Thanks in advance x

Hmm.....it could be a lot of things. Have you tried resetting your router?

Resetting your phone might help too.

It's hard to tell with such limited information.

I'm very certain it's not the router, but I'll try that next time thank you. I forgot to include this on my first post but "technology" and "me" don't mix well. I have extreme bad luck with tech stuffs so you're gonna have to expect this kind of questions when you're speaking about technology with me:

How do I reset my phone?? Like, turn it off and back on again?

next time you're able to connect, go into the network settings on your phone and choose "Forget network". after that you'll have to reenter the network password to connect again. might work, might not but worth a try.

Yes, turn it completely off, then back on.

The same goes with your router, remove the power cord wait 10 seconds and plug it back in.

Look at the connections that iPhones can connect to, i.e 2.4 ghz or 5ghz, security settings wpa, psk, aes, WiFi strength etc. An easy google search would do.

Compare the settings of your iPhone then to your routers. Look at your router's brand and google search Router's main page. After logging in to the router's setting/dashboard, look at the type of security and connection you have for WiFi. Switch some settings around to make your iPhone's connection easier.

This is good advice.

As far as resetting your phone, there are two types of resets you can do. A hard reset, and a soft one.

How to do a soft reset: basically just turn off the phone.

How to do a hard reset: Ok, this is for a last resort usually- especially if you're already cozy and comfortable with the way your phone is. Because in a factory reset, you lose everything. But in the event that you do this, you just need to find the settings on your phone (should be an app with gears for the icon, if I remember correctly), and an option to factory reset/reset all settings should be under the general tab.

Well if you say other device's can connect then it must be something to do with the iPhone the main thing I can think of is the iPhone is made of aluminium so that can be a factor or if you have a case on your phone can cause a weak/weaker connection to the router also how far away are you from your router? walls and doors also affect the WiFi signal. last thing I can think of is iPhone firmware it might just be a firmware bug/glitch that causes random disconnections try checking for syestem updates and install it if there is one.

Google search - iPhone 5 WiFi random disconnects. I'm sure something from the official apple forums will come up it won't just be you that's had/having this problem.

If your phone is connected to the wifi, but without internet, try disconnecting other devices from the wifi. But if your phone is not connecting to the wifi, it may be your phone's wireless adapter...
