Well i'm not into drugs or alchohol or smoking but i'm just a curious person and recently a friend of mine (girl) told me to join her and smoke some weed. What do you think?

I think it's your choice if you want to try drugs or not.

I feel very strongly against drugs so since I accidentally saw your thread, and it's open for everyone's opinion, you can't escape a little bit of my selfish thoughts:

I've heard of a ton of people who became a total A-hole because of drugs. The most extreme case being stealing stuffs from family members and selling them to buy drugs. I'm not saying when you do drugs you're instantly a bad person, but you're at risk of being more than a mere bad person. Is this gamble worth it? That's for you to decide.

i kinda agree with above because there are so many risks and potential negatives that will come out of it. I wouldnt want to become someone who needs to be under some mind altering substance to have a good time. However, some people need to try things to see if its for them or not... if you are prepared to potentially change your lifestyle then go for it. but if it were me, i'd stay away

Once you make an exception for taking one drug it can start a domino effect.

I'd give you a big No. Don't try it.

The desiscion is all up to you. Don't take the initiative to start smoking because a friend requested you to do so, it should be from your own thought process. Make sure you do your research. Before doing anything you should know the pros and cons and how it might affect you.

If you have a mentality that makes it easy for you to form psychological addictions (such as to video games, tv shows, etc.) or don't have the willpower to control your own usage, then I wouldn't recommend smoking. A lot of people who start smoking are also very irresponsible to begin with, so smoking can make them lose motivation and start focusing on things that shouldn't be a priority.

Though I'm not as opposed to using psychoactives as the above posters seem to be, I would suggest you wait. Smoking continually at a young age can cause adverse neurological affects. It's a big responsibility to take; your decision should reflect the best interest of your well being.

Don't buy into into of the hype. Marijuana has been proven to actually be less addictive than caffeine, and no permanent long term effects have been proven to exist. In fact, it's even being used by thousands of doctors around the world as a pain killer, anti-epilepsy drug, and anti-depressant. The ONLY reason weed is illegal in the first place is because in the 20's and 30's hemp was threatening the lumber industry as a raw material and biofuel.

You hould never try anything you're uncomfortable with purely because friends are pressuring you to, but the "dangers" have been greatly overstated. I'm not promoting illegal drug usage, I'm simply stating the facts.

I have a policy called, as long as it doesn't affect anything else, then do it at your own risk. You know that it is illegal and it could get you in trouble, but so is underage consumption of alcohol but people don't frown upon that as much as weed, even though alcohol has a higher lethal dose, is more addicting and more damaging to the user than weed.

A lot of people are surprised when I tell them I smoke almost every day because people think that people who smoke have to be stupid, a-hole and lazy. It's been a year since I have started, my grades are good, I go to work from monday to thursday, I still have time for my family and for my other friends. You need to learn to balance everything, and I've told my self if it affects any other aspect of my life then I will stop, so far everything seems fine.

let's see, how to word this without running afoul of the rules here...*finger steeple*

I like weed and have yet to experience any negative side effects from it. I personally enjoy it a lot more than alcohol. but I'll just say be sensible about it, and don't do anything that you feel pressured by others into doing.

I say go for it. I mean its just weed its not cocaine or some serious stuff.I'm just like you i'm also a curious guy and i must say the first time (and last time) i smoked i didn't really get high like i feel myself floating and some sort of stuff and i faked being stoned with my friends xD. it can be a fun little experience though.I only did it once and i will not do it again i only did it for curiousity. :D don't get addicted though your'e still responsible for your actions

for those saying that it will ruin his life, really? 1 smoke will not ruin his life unless he smokes everyday which i hope he doesn't.

Okay, you should not do it if you are in any sort of sport or activity because it will get you kicked off if caught.

Another thing: Are you getting a job any time soon? If so, DO NOT do it because most jobs drug test and that'll get you in deep shit.

Above all else, you need to consider the health risks. Smoking anything is not good for you.

If you want to do weed it's your choice. I don't do drugs but personally I would rather someone be smoking weed every once in a while then smoking cigarettes frequently.

In my opinion there's nothing wrong with smoking weed in a small group of friends. It's similar to going to a party and drinking alcohol really.

I agree with the guy above me. I smoke weed every blue moon or so and it's great. Don't smoke a dutchess though (ciger with weed in it) becasue it can contain nicotine in it and that's what I stay away from. Overall I think it's fun with a group of friends or by yourself but in the end it comes down to your decision.

WEED is SOFTDRUGS and ALCOHOL is HARDDRUGS so if you have done alcohol before.. you might aswell just try weed.. besides alcohol is more dangerous than weed and I've been asked many times to smoke weed, but I always rejected, yet I have drank alcohol before.

i am very pro-weed and smoke pot myself but i would never recommend anybody to use substances, that means drugs ore alcohol. although drugs and alchohol WILL make you feel amazing at the moment, it will just make things worst in the end. And addiction is not the place you want to be

I'm going to say NO! You really shouldn't be doing drugs it's a gateway drug that can cause the domino effect.

Honestly if you really want to try it then try it. I hate to say this, but it's weed, not meth. You're most likely not going to get high your first time. My first time smoking was bad, I didn't get high & I was very paranoid of getting caught. That experience made me not want to smoke again. Eventually I tried it again a few years later. It just depends on the person I would say, if addition runs in your family I wouldn't risk it, though. I smoke weed quite often but it's something I can go without. I'm personally not addicted but I know many who are & it's something you don't want to become addicted to. If you're smart when you use it you shouldn't have a problem. Once you start smoking by yourself & use it to solve your problems then that's when it becomes a problem.

This is absolutely wrong. Anything which causes a physiological response to the body can be classed as a drug or therapy. Giving lollies to a diabetic with low blood sugar corrects the hypoglycaemia, hence it is a drug. Giving fluid to a dehydrated person is treating the dehydration, is part of medical management and is therefore a drug. Marijuana causes a cascade of biochemical reactions within the brain. It is most definitely a drug. Just because something is a plant or herb, it's not a drug? Can't be more incorrect than that, I'm afraid.

I mean its just weed its not cocaine or some serious stuff.

...

for those saying that it will ruin his life, really? 1 smoke will not ruin his life unless he smokes everyday which i hope he doesn't.

It's not necessarily the number of times, which is the most important. True, one dose of a medication in a limited amount might not cause permanent damage; but the sequelae arising from it could be long lasting.

Exhibit 1: Imagine a young person drinking a couple units of alcohol on one occasion. A couple of drinks can't hurt, right? Usually, no. But said person becomes tipsy, walks onto a road, gets hit and becomes permanently disabled.

Exhibit 2: A young person (X) gets invited to smoke some marijuana with some peers on one occasion. To get along with the group, this person acquiesces and joins everyone. It feels okay on that one occasion. Nothing bad really happened. X is invited to another session again. "It didn't cause any problems last time, I get along with everyone. If I don't go again, I'll lose my standing within this group... It can't be too much of an issue, if I do it again...?" X fronts up to session two and finds another newcomer (Y), who is trying marijuana for the first time. X has another smooth session, no issues at all. Y on the other hand is not so lucky. Y develops an episode of drug induced psychosis and needs to be hospitalised. X thinks to themself: "What the heck just happened?! I had no issues, the other guys had no issues! Why did this happen to Y?"

Well, X... Just because everyone took the same dosage of a drug and exactly the same medication, doesn't mean they all get the same reaction. The pharmacokinetics (what the body of one person does to a drug) and pharmocodynamics (what a drug does to a body) differs from person to person. The genetics of a person differs from one individual to another and so does their ability to metabolise drugs (pharmacogenetics). This is actually very conveniently shown in Dame's post, where even on her first go, she got a common adverse reaction:

So there is also some misconception behind what eftboy said. Just because it's 'only Marijuana' means nothing. All drugs have their side effects. Some take a long period of time to manifest. Others manifest more quickly. It is very unique to the individual. If you are given some general anaesthetic, you're likely going to lapse into sedation pretty quickly, within seconds. If you have a high intake of high caloric meals for years, you might not have any issues at all. X or Y, however; might develop diabetes mellitus.

Why am I mentioning this? Taking marijuana on one occasion might not necessarily cause any problems. But they might. At the end of the day, we should always weigh up the risks and benefits to what we do - not just with drugs.

I'm not saying that there are no roles for certain medications within our society. I am saying that they should be used after balancing things up properly. The ultimate choice falls upon your shoulders. Read about it, become more informed and make an informed decision. Personally, I know what choice I'd make.

I did a search for you and here is a good government based website which summarises the main points about marijuana's affects. Hope that helps you with your decision making: http://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/bhcv2/bhcarticles.nsf/pages/Cannabis_marijuana?open

Take care mate.

I agree. heroin comes from the opium poppy (a pretty flower!!!!) so it's "all natural" too right? and ricin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ricin) comes from the castor plant.

granted weed is waaaaaaaaaay less of a big deal than heroin or ricin but still. "it comes from a plant therefore is harmless" is a retarded non-argument.

Well since weed isn't chemically addicting...
I have to disagree with everyone saying that weed is a gateway drug. Barack Obama said in his book Dreams from my Father: "I spent the last two years of high school in a daze... tried drugs enthusiastically" So if the gateway theory goes: Smoke weed, become a community organizer, become a senator, become president...
Just watched a show the other day where there was a clip of Morgan Freeman saying that he will "never give up the ganja."

Yes seeing as its just marijuana. I hate all the people that say that its a gateway drug and you go on to harder drugs. I'm sure that's true for some people but the same thing happens with alcohol. For the amount of people that went on to worse stuff there are 10x the amount that stopped on weed. Sorry for the rant.
