I am a wrestler i get boners my coach told us wrestlers get boners. Wrestlers do tend to get boners more often at matches. This is because many wrestlers don't jerk off or have sex for a while before a match. The reasoning is that increases your testosterone levels making you perform better , kind of horny rage . Also there's much less boners at practice.
So jerk off or what?

I am not sure I believe the thing about testosterone level - I'd need to see some proper research. On the other hand there is definitely an affect that we almost all notice where, right after cumming, we feel relaxed, even slighly sleepy. So it's reasonable to suppose you would not be as aggresive if you had cum a few minites before the fight as you would had it been longer since your last cum.

What is not so obvious is how long it has to have been for it not to make much difference. Would you be more agressive after 24h than after 12? Or 48h rather than 24? I am sure I have seen someone on here say he abstains for weeks on end - that deication to your sport but not a sacrifice I would be prepared to make. The length of time it takes to get horny again after you've cum gets longer as you get older and that seems related to this so maybe the length of time that works well for your coach would be longer than you need.

Hey Studies have shown having sex or jerking off before any performance it does not affect it just an old wise tale.

Does it really harm your performance you think ?

My best friend was a top seed State wrestler and he
said boners happen naturally with body to body contact
and the singlet rubbing against a rubber mat. He said
having sex or jerking off before a match will not stop
getting a boner. Wrestling is a homoerotic sport and
I would say that with the release of testosterone would
make any sport player more aggressive. You said should
u jerk off? Yeah go for it. If u think it is going to stop u
from getting a boner then just do it.

Do you have a reference to any such study? I am not saying that what you're saying isn't true but I suspect that it may depend on what is meant by "before".

For example, if you mean there is no point in abstaining for a week before hand then anecdotally that seems likely to be true. On the other hand if you have cum moments before going out to complete then I'd be surprised is there was not some effect so I think it's about the timing.

I'll see what I can find on Google.

So I have been Googling and the most scientific article I could come up with is this one: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4914923/ There are also journalistic articles in Mens Health and similar.

So when it comes to having sex (or presumably j/o) the night before the meta analysis seems to back up what Tpyro is saying - that it's a old wives tale and make no measurable difference.

But in the conclusion of the meta analysis it reads "Anecdotal experiences sustain, on the contrary, a positive effect of performance if sexual activity is undertaken at least 10 h before sports competition". There seems to be less information about doing closer to the time of competition than that and that's the time I was speculating about.

In particular, I think GiJoe was thinking that, as it is harder to get a boner shortly after you've cum, that would make it less embarrassing to compete. That period when you're less inclined to get a boner is the refractory period and that is hormonally driven, not by lower testosterone, but by other hormones that temporarily suppress your horniness. But if there is any period during which a recent orgasm may decrease your competitiveness or athletic performance then this refractory period is it. So I don't think there is a way though this, i.e. you can't j/o shortly before the competition to tame boners and be sure it hasn't had an effect on performance so I think you do have to live with the boners.

Like usual my friend you have a very good and reasonable explanation. I totally agree.

What you say makes sense.
Basically, don't wank 5 minutes before, but no need not to wank for days before.

That’s totally wrong
That decreases testosterone
Masturbating / sex (so long as you cum) increases your testosterone levels

Wrestlers getting boners is well... obviously you enjoy get up close and pressing and rubbing against another guy in tights

Wrestlers r rare breeds. Its a rough sport.
U have to expect to pop boners and walk
round with a bulge. To a lot of guys they
like the attention to show off their package
and others r self conscious. To those u have
to expect that it is going to happen and if u
cant hack it then wrestling is not for u. I have
seen wrestlers including my friend handle more
junk than a garbage man. They don't think twice
of grabbing their grappler by his nutz.

I am very comfortable in my wrestling singlet and having erections/ boners. I Ben wrestling 4 years . I think jerking off the night before a meet affected my performance I was relaxed sleepy very sluggish that day of meet I did not score points.
Wrestling is a fun rough hard sport.
I wanted to know thoughts what coach told my team?

Then don't jerk off before a meet. Coaches have theories
on different things but every guys bodies and systems are
different. So u cant really say its this way or that way.

U said nothing that was misunderstanding. U said u wanted to
hear what the coach had to say. Its ok to follow the coach but
every guy is different so how can he say if u do something this
way or that way it is the honest truth. Other than practice and
moves he could only offer speculation of how ur body is going
to react. I was never a wrestler but my very best friend since
I was 5 won States for 3 years and Ive heard a lot of what goes
on before and during practices and meets and what coaches say
for their players to do or not to do. One of my friends assistant
coaches was arrested for offering steroids to build up their
stamina. And they believed him that they would benefit for
doing so.

You said nothing wrong in what u asked. U had questions and
u wanted feedback. Just follow what u think is right and have
safe fun. Wrestling is a rough sport and anyone who goes thru
all the training and practice should think highly of themselves. :)

I play baseball and also swim. I usually won't jerk off before any game or event. But, afterwards, depending on the outcome of the game, I will jerk off.

I used to do karate and judo regularly and jerking off never impacted my performance. Could be subjective though I guess

The reasoning is that increases your testosterone levels making you perform better , kind of horny rage . Also there's much less boners at practice.

I thought jacking off is a sport.

IDK so try and experiment jacking before and not jacking before to see if there is any difference.
