I've read Animal Farm and 1984, mainly just because I found a book containing both for a really good deal. I like Orwell's writing, and the tones are remarkably different yet so similar. Animal Farm is an almost fantastical tale of farm animals kicking out the farmer and attempting to run the farm themselves, and 1984 is a tale of a man in a dark future attempting to find fulfillment. Yet both books are ultimately about how communism and authoritarianism are ideologies we need must fight.

I would like to read Fahrenheit 451, Death of a Salesman, Lord of the Flies, and Brave New World.

I've read Animal Farm, Gatsby, Death of a Salesman, Romeo and Juliet, 1984 and Catcher in the Rye. I haven't read a fiction book for about 18 months now. A Level English lit took it out of me :D

I've read about half these books.

Catcher In The Rye
Animal Farm
The Great Gatsby
Brave New World
Fahrenheit 451
Romero and Juliet
1984.

Usually, I like to read biographies and historical non-fiction. However, there are a lot of fiction books (mostly historical faction) I like to read. I also like sci-fi novels too.

I must read in school Animal Farm, 1984 and Romeo and Juliet.
We read also old classic literature like Faust I and II, Sorcerer's Apprentice by Goethe and
Simplicius Simplicissimus by Grimmelshausen (very heavy stuff)

I’ve only read 1984 and Fahrenheit 451, which is a great book by the way, totally recommend it.

I agree with you! 1984 was a great book, a little off putting with the descriptions and how the protagonist talks about the woman he’s with, but I think it just gives perspective of how inhuman he sees other people, and how no one is really free or conscious enough to be considered anything more than perhaps just an object or obstacle. The authoritarian figure is the complete overtone of the book and I agree that it gives some insight on things we must fight in our real life

I've read 10/15, so not bad. Some of them I read in school, some independently

(I've never read Romeo and Juliet but have read several other Shakespeare plays).

Animal Farm is not ultimately about Communism and autnoritarianism, as detestible as they may be, Orwell was very specific about the book relating to revolution, and how those who overthrow their leaders without changing the system will enevitably become just like the people they overthrew. It has wider application than mearly comunist history.

And 1984 is clearly, ultimately, about fasism.

Also, no book is "ultimately" about anything
