Awesome show...... Until episode 14-15........ Then it just got weird, with the Alfeim stuff. I'd rather they extended the SAO part of it......

Anyone care to give their opinions?

I liked the start of the first season

Thought it sort of went downhill pretty fast

The light novels are actually pretty good. http://www.baka-tsuki.org/project/index.php?title=Sword_Art_Online
Here's a link in case anyone's interested. Plus Gun Gale Online/SAO Season 2 just came out, and it's going to be much better.

SAO was amazing, the second part of it did get weird, but how it wrapped up made it all worth it.

Overrated. Kirito is a fucking bullshit character who's got zero flaws and no depth. I mean seriously the dudes got chicks flying out of his ears, all of the characters in the game are all seriously annoying as well. Don't even get me started on the Alfheim stuff. The fighting scenes are alright though. Reminds me of Black Rock Shooter, shit story, shit characters, really awesome fights. I reckon the anime could've been really good if they didn't make the main character to be the prodigal son of the Gaming God.

I'd rather watch .hack//Sign, because that actually has some character development.

I liked it. It wasn't a particularly deep and thought provoking series, nor were the characters that deep, but it was enjoyable. It was meant to be fun, and it was. My expectations weren't that high for it, so I was pleasantly surprised. I seem to be one of th few people who actually liked the second half of it. I thought it was more interesting that the first part. I'll definitely watch the next season when it comes out.

I agree, I loved SAO but didn't like Alfeim Online. I also didn't like how in Alfeim, Asuna was always the victim, she was captured, people attempted to molest her, she was generally portrayed as helpless there - and she had the potential to be such a strong character. The fanservice was just ridiculous and way over the top and it spoiled some serious scenes.

Sword Art Online is a favorite anime of mine. Lots of people both love and hate it. I honestly loved it. I can't wait for season 2.

Those darned time-skips... The pacing was horrible, the story wasn't explained, and the slice of life elements butchered the plot progression.

Those side-character quests had nothing to do with the original plot, and just took up space that could have been actual potential to develop the story. We kept getting introduced to Kirito's girlfriend of the week, and oh, the second arc... *facepalm* nonredeemable.

The main character was an OP little mr. perfect. Asuna wasn't much better herself, especially when they reduced her to a damsel in distress.

Instead of flinging the story around everywhere, they should have spent time to actually develop the characters and focus on the original goal.

They had so, so much potential with this story, could have taken it in so many different directions, and had so many different aspects it could have focused on.
They could have focused on the politics and inner workings of the game world, or the characters adjusting to the world and their perception of normalcy changing, or just showing a survival struggle. Heck, they could have even taken the Code Geass route and focused on the military aspects of it.

It should have just gone with one theme idea and stuck with it, instead of cramming the story with little bits of everything.
