I started a tradition last year. During the month of October, I have decided to commit to watching one horror movie a day for the entire month building up to Halloween. Last year's choices were totally at random but this year I *carved out* (haha) 5 specific sub-genres. Is anybody else commiting to the same type of thing? Or, if not, what are you doing to user in the darkness this Halloween season???
My list of films:
(Deliberately a balance of contemporary and standard classics)
1) - "Haunted Houses" - "Things going bump in the night..." ~ a) - Crimson Peak, 2015, b) - "Hereditary", 2018, c) - "Inferno", 1980, d) - "The Conjuring", 2013
2) - "Art Horror" - "Beautiful nightmares..." ~ a) "Suspiria", 2018, b) "Midsommar", 2019
3) - "Horror/Comedy" - "A Light in the Darkness..." ~ a) "Evil Dead", 1982, b) "Army of Darkness", 1992, c) "The Rocky Horror Picture Show", 1975, d) "Shaun of the Dead", 2004, e) "Death Becomes Her", 1992, f) "Dark Shadows", 2012,
4) - "Creature Features" - "Monsters Among Us..." ~ a) "The Fly", 1986, b) "An American Warewolf in London", 1981, c) "Dracula", 1992, d) "US", 2019, e) "Night of the Living Dead", 1968, f) "Dawn of the Dead", 1978, g) "Overlord", 2018, h) "Alien: Covenant", 2017
5) - "Slashers!" - "Mother! Oh God, mother! Blood! Blood!" ~ a) "Halloween", 1978, b) "Halloween 2", 1981, c) "The Strangers", 2008, d) "Strangers: Prey at Night", 2018, e) "Scream", 1996, f) "Last House on the Left", 1972, g) "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", 1974, h) "Psycho", 1960, i) "Deep Red", 1975, j) "Friday the 13th", 1980, k) "Trick 'r Treat", 2007
And so far the days have fallen accordingly:
Day 1 - Halloween
Day 2 - Evil Dead
Day 3 - Overlord
Day 4 - Army of Darkness
Day 5 - Deep Red
Day 6 - The Strangers
Day 7 - Halloween 2
Day 8 - Strangers: Prey at Night
Day 9 - The Fly
Day 10 - Crimson Peak
Day 11 - Dark Shadows
Day 12 - Dracula
Day 13 - An American Warewolf in London
Day 14 - Death Becomes Her

U have a lot of time on ur hands.
I cant commit but my very favorite is
The Hills Have Eyes. When I first saw
this when I was small I couldn't fall
asleep for days. Halloween is so run
into the ground it has lost its horror.

I really like to watch horror movies in October as well but don't commit to 1 a day or anything. So far this year I've watched paranormal activity 1-4, original nightmare on elm street, remake of Friday the 13th, dawn of the dead, house of 1000 corpses and devils rejects.
Looking forward to 3 from hell which just came out. Still got a bunch left to watch.

Couldn't even afford to watch a small list of movies each weekend. Too much work to do. Also because of Halloween, wenn we "open" The little Auto Repair Shop of Horror" with the special guest star Christine. Of course, Christine isn't a classic red Plymouth Furys but that's a horror++. At least you can watch the movie in Fake Christine.
but congrats to your list

Wow, yea i definitely need to up my horror movie game!
When you say Evil Dead was it the one from the 80s or the remake?? I saw the newer one on tv the other night. It was okay but i was disappointed because i was actually hoping it was the 80s one since alot of people think it a cult classic. :)

In my opinion, the best horror movie I have seen is "Aliens".

I love to discuss Aliens.
Aliens is a slippery slope for me.
Personally, I feel Aliens is more an action film than anything else, especially with James Cameron directing. However, the three films directed by Ridley Scott (Alien, Prometheus, and Alien Covenant) stick much truer to the horror genre. However, if you consider continuity, Aliens is a wonderful firecracker finale to the horrific narrative set up by Scott. I cannot wait for Alien Awakening.

The one from the 80s of course!!
Lucky me, i just saw that the 80s one is available on Hulu!! Will report back after i watch it. :) and the second one is on there too, which i am interested in because it is put under the comedy category.

I saw both Alien and Aliens for first time this past summer! They were great, both in different ways. I will probably watch the other ones too even though as i understand it, they just kinda get worse with each new sequel.

As for the countdown:
Over the weekend I saw JOKER (my 3rd time) with friends which means I got behind in my horror movie countdown. So I had to do a double feature. Today I watched Dawn of the Dead, and I'm still watching The Conjuring.
Evil Dead 2 is funny as hell and it's also a quasi remake of the first film. Both of them received NC-17 ratings for the horror violence. But they are absolutely fantastic. I own the original trilogy, but I do need to purchase the 2013 remake. Each entry in the series gets progressively lighter in tone (the 2013 film is the darkest however...) and each has its own identity. It's a fantastic series and Bruce Campbell is great :)
Oh yay!!!
I'm so glad you finally saw them!
Aliens is by NO MEANS a bad movie. It's just not a *horror* movie. Alien Covenant and Prometheus are personally my favorite entires in the series. But the 90s films Alien 3 and more so Alien Resurrection are tough to watch. At least Alien 3 tried to end the series with dignity. Resurrection is a horrible outing that only serves to appease Gore hounds who don't care about acting, structure, cinematography, visuals, and I could go on....

I watched both the original and the remake of Hills Have Eyes this month. I liked them both but the remake made me really tense.
Another old one I watched this month was Zombie which contains what is probably the only topless woman versus shark versus zombie fight in film history.
Midsommar is good but they could have shaved 20 or 30 minutes off without losing anything.

For as much of a Wes Craven junkie as I am (god rest his soul), I'm ashamed to say I haven't seen The Hills Have Eyes! It's actually nothing against that film, it's more his early works in general. My "new Wes Craven experience" this year is going to be "The Last House on the Left". Last year I was managing a video store and even some of my most hardened customers couldn't make it through LHOTL. So I'm not sure...
That's hysterical :D
That sounds like a fight that doesn't know if it's intense, disturbing, or arousing :D :D :D
Eh ...
Agree and disagree.
I just watched Midsommar today, and it feels MUCH shorter on a rewatch. I'm afraid to say this, but I'm pretty sure that it works better for home viewing than on the big screen.
