I just recently watched what I believe to be one of the greatest movies of all time. I’ve seen nothing like it in my life before. The dry, satirical humor, the sheer number of quotable lines... I never watched the movie before because I figured it was just gonna be another overrated horror movie, but oh how I was wrong. The movie is pretty gruesome, so take that into account, but it’s only in certain pockets of the movie. I need to return some video tapes.

Oh my god!
You've never seen this?!?
I'm so glad you finally have!!!
Though there are differences from the source material, it is an incredible film.
Structurally, in execution, in the writing, in the subtext, and of course in the acting.
This is the film that proved Christian Bale to me.
All of the pop culture and music references are fantastic as well.
Good for you for watching this one.

K - Not a big music fan, huh?
B - No, I like music. Just they're... Huey's too black sounding for me.

I really love how it's not a horror movie in the classic sense. If this movie wasn't from Patrick Bateman's point of view where he's the protagonist, I wouldn't have liked this nearly as much, if really at all. Until last quarter or so of the runtime, I thought it was ridiculous that American Psycho was considered a horror movie. It seemed much more like a thriller-comedy to me, and it has those aspect for sure, but this movie is a psychological horror movie. It created senses of uncertainty, and I was left questioning everything. This was not a shocking jump scare movie.
I don't really like horror movies in general because typically a few or all of the main characters die, and I don't like seeing characters that have their own character development fail, and subsequently die by the ned of the film. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre just pissed me the fuck off, even though I know it's a pretty fantastic movie. With American Psycho, I was rooting for Bateman nearly the entire time.

"There is a moment of sheer panic when I realize that Paul's apartment overlooks the park. And it's obviously more expensive than mine. I calm myself, and move into the bedroom."

I must say though that it was kinda weird to watch at first, since the Batman trilogy were the first movies I've seen starring Christian Bale, and then he's this homicidal madman. :P

It's such a funny movie too. I laugh so much at the bit where he's talking about Phil Collins and then has that ridiculous sex scene where he's making these hilarious poses and faces to the camera.
"Christy, get down on your knees so Sabrina can see your ass. Phil Collins solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying in a narrower way, especially songs like 'In the Air Tonight' and 'Against All Odds'. Sabrina, don't just stare at it - eat it!"
