View Full Version : My phone experience became smoother after a huge drop

Hey guys :)

I have a Samsung Galaxy J7 running Android 6.0.1. It's been with me for 3 years and it has so many problems like opening the camera crashes the phone, the phone turns off by itself and gets stuck on a reboot loop, and the UI is SOOOOO SLOOOOWWWW. Basically, it has been a nightmare because I've dropped it like a thousand times (the screen is intact idk how and I have no case or screen protector) but today something really confusing happened.

So I was angry and my phone was in my hand so I threw it on the floor. It made a loud bang so this time I really thought it was gone. The screen was still clean, no scratches (this really surprises me for a 200$ phone), the battery was literally bent. Being the "I'll fix it" guy, I un-bent the battery and proceeded to put it back in my phone. (I know this is super unsafe I'm gonna buy a new battery soon and I won't charge it). So the phone turned on (HOW IS IT STILL ALIVE), and usually it starts lagging as soon as I unlock it. GUESS WHAT. It felt so responsive and smooth and fast. I opened up Instagram which really slows it down and IT OPENED IN LIKE A SECOND. Been using it for an hour and there's no lag or glitches whatsoever. And it's not heating up. And I'm using this holy phone to type this thread right now. Can anyone try to explain how in the world is this phone still alive?

Sorry for the long story but you should really read everything lol.

Its time to buy a new phone.

I wish it was that easy. I mean I have the money but my parents won't approve. A phone upgrade is "unnecessary and you do it just to show it off to your friends". And they WILL prefer to buy me a new battery and fix this 3 year old phone instead of letting me buy a new one.

I mean why fix a phone 5 times when you can buy a new phone for half the price of all the repairs. It's already awesome that this phone is still working for me after 3 years of abuse lol

Question: Have you been on the same battery since you got this phone?

I know iPhones had a scandal where their devices got slow if the battery was old or degraded and I wonder if android had a similar issue.

Yes I'm using the same old battery that came in the box with the phone. The only thing I can't understand is why it worked properly after it was bent lol. I mean it should've exploded or something.

I'm 1000% sure it would die on me. I don't really know the exact reason but my mom told me that when I get my own job I'll buy whatever I want. My parents paid half the price of this phone because it was my birthday. Honestly I would've preferred buying it with my own money.

The physical damage to the battery’s cells might have altered the flow of electrons and therefore the rate in which your device draws power making up for the degraded power flow from before the physical damage.

(Which was causing the slow downs earlier).

Either way it IS and remains a potential fire hazard as you charge and discharge the current battery.

At this rate though I recommend just getting a newer device since the phone you have now has physical damage.

Wow thank you so much for the explanation. Yeah I'm going to discuss this with my parents and hopefully I'll get a new phone before this one explodes XD

Fingers crossed
