View Full Version : My dad asked me if I have phimosis.

My older brother had phimosis and got circumcised and wishes he still had his foreskin. I wasn't going to lie so I told my dad that I have phimosis but it doesn't cause any problems and I really don't want to get circumcised. He said the Dr would look at it when I get a sports physical. I'm assuming the Dr is going to recommend circumcision but I don't know for sure.

The doctor can gave you some steroid cream to work it into your skin, to help it "Grow".

The doctor can give a fair and objective judgement when they see it. They should be able to offer other treatments for it (like the steroid cream) and you can explain your reservations about circumcision if that's what they recommend.

I think you need to ask the doctor is if it's possibly going to be a problem in the future - after everything has stopped growing down there. If not, then why bother doing anything if you are happy with how it is? Like the others have said though, definitely talk to them about the other options first.

Plus, if they don't work, don't forget that not all circumcisions are the same - they might be able to just take a bit off the end and leave you the rest?

I give credit to your father for asking you if you're all right about phimosis. Chances are Phimosis is something that runs in your family, and he knows it can be uncomfortable.

Like the others have said, all because you have Phimosis does not mean you have to get circumcised. However, it is not good to avoid doing anything about it because it will cause you issues. There are so many ways to deal with Phimosis beyond a full circumcision, and at least let your doctor figure out options.

At least you have a father who care about your health and is making sure you're all right which is a great thing to have.

I have what is referred to as "pinhole phimosis". But I have a long foreskin so it doesn't cause any pain or discomfort. I've read online about guys who lived their entire lives with this condition without any problems. I definitely don't want circumcision and I don't know if stretching will work. I don't think any remedy is even necessary since it doesn't cause any problems.

I guess if you can't retract your foreskin completely, it may cause issues during intercourse, so you should double check with your doctor

If it can't be fully retracted you may not be able to clean under it properly, which may lead to a higher chance of infections and certain conditions. It's better to get a professional opinion than leaving it in the hopes that everything will be ok.

There are other solutions other than circumcision. You can tell your doctor that you definitely don't want to be circumcised and I am sure they will find a way to help you.

I clean under it by using the shower wand on low pressure. For guys with phimosis, it's a great way to clean it.

You may not to have to be fully circumsized (the traditional look).my friend had it done and they only cut 1/4 possibly half so he still had lots of foreskin left

...I'm assuming the Dr is going to recommend circumcision but I don't know for sure.

As other people have said, stretching with a steroid cream should be tried first and circumcision should be a last resort.

I can also completely understand your concern and you might not simply trust that the doctor knows best. The impression I get from what others have said on here is that because circumcision is still very common in the USA even when there is no confirmed medical need and some in the medical profession promote what I think are marginal benefits that don't outweigh the risks and the preference of the patient, that doctors would recommend circumcision much more quickly than would the case, for example, here in the UK where circumcision is much less common. I read an article once that said that even when GPs had referred boys to a hospital in Liverpool for circumcision, only 1 in 4 actually needed it.

Check out this article from the UK NHS (https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/phimosis/) which says it is only necessary to treat phimosis if it is causing some other issue. If you don't have the issue with swelling or inflammation, and if you are not having sex or are content to use a condom, at least for the time being, then there is no urgency.

So when it comes to talking to both the doctor and your father I think it would help if you could show you've done your own research and you're not just being awkward. Also, depending on how old you are, if you can delay getting circumcised until you are legally an adult it then become your consent that would be required rather than your father's.

Yes, certainly the risk is higher but beware there a big difference between higher and high, i.e. relative vs. absolute risk. As an example, if you buy a lottery ticket and your chance of winning the jackpot is 1 in 14 million (an estimate I saw for the UK national lottery) buying two tickets would double your chance of winning which would now be 1 in 7 million. Given that the lottery would be drawn less than 5,000 in an average lifetime the chances are you would still not win it.

Then, even if unlucky and affected by an infection that can be treated and that treatment is still much less invasive than circumcision. It's only with repeated infections and after the failure of cream/stretching treatment that circumcision may be the best option.

All this is in the UK NHS article, or linked from it, in my previous post. These articles are written by doctors but, as you can see, people have a slightly different take on things depending on where they are based.

I suggest you talk to urologist in this matter. Just talk about your hesitancy to get circumcized and whether he considers it as the best option.

Personally, in my opinion, circumcision might be the best alternative in the long run, but every Px has his own preferences. So always talk with your care provider.

I had phimosis, so my parents and doc agreed to circumcise when I'm still a baby cause it's restricting urine flow. Do I complain? Nope. I understand the rationale and I see no reason to complain.

Circumcision may or may not be the best/only way to address your phimosis. But if it is, it'll be fine. If you're in the US, most guys you know are cut, and they all love their dicks and think they work great. Both ways (assuming no phimosis) have advantages and disadvantages, but if fate puts you on the cut side, well, most (or perhaps even all) of your friends are probably already there. It's a good side to be on.

Or if the phimosis gets fixed another way, also fine. Just make sure it gets fixed.

Your father is right to care about about your health.
Your doctor will have the best opinion. Your doctor will also listen to you. Circumcision is not the only way. Phimosis is not life threatening. If he can, your doctor will avoid to do something you don't want, because a doctor's job is to make people feel better.

Phimosis can cause many kinds of issues for you. If the doctor recommends it go for it, you will be fine.

Update: I had my physical last week and the Dr confirmed what I had already known that I have phimosis. I told her that it doesn't cause any pain or discomfort and that I can clean it easily with the shower wand. She told me that she would normally recommend circumcision for pin-hole phimosis like mine but said that it's ok to leave it for now if it isn't causing any problems. She said I could always get it done later if it caused any problems.

Then it's not a big issue, and you will not be circumsized if you don't want to. Has she suggested other solutions, such as creams?

You should ask your doctor for some steroid cream and you should also do some stretching of the tip so you can pull your forskin back to clean, so you don't have to get cut

You’re going to want to be able to pull it back comfortably eventually. You’ll have to do something, you’re only postponing. I guess use this time to think about it, either stretching or circumcision is probably in your future unless it magically fixes itself, which it probably won’t.

Personally I’d take circumcision. It only has to be done once and then it’s decisively fixed, and you get to learn to appreciate your 2.0 version—and despite what the haters say, being cut is great, tons of guys love it. But stretching might work if you stick with it, and having a functioning foreskin is also great. Your choice. But don’t fool yourself, you’re going to have to choose someday.

I've read about guys who live their entire lives with a tight phimosis without any real problems. I'm definitely not going to get circumcised. If I absolutely had to fix it I would try stretching. For now I'm going to leave it as is.

As long as you can keep a proper hygiene underneath to avoid infection it’s ok but I confirm the steroid cream and gentle stretching of the tip is working well (for me at least).

Not all steroid creams work, they do a little but as we talked about Stevan you like me should ask your doctor about the use of streaching creams, teenagers like ME use them only because my doctor recommended them.
And proper hygiene means you should not have smegma.

Hey dude I'm in the same boat I've used the steroid cream for around 6 months urologist didn't want me to use it for more than 2 months it stretched a little bit but no where near enough to let the head out... So I'm all booked in to get snipped I'm definitely not looking forward to it but to be honest I've been to 3 different urologists and they've all said the same thing I just want a working cock lol and I'm sick of showing it to random Drs. Try the cream it might work for you if you're still young or have a smaller head... I'll be getting snipped in September cause of covid they aren't doing minor operations atm...

I've tried everything trust me there's no way my head will fit thought that small pin hole... The cream is good if you need to stretch a bit but if you need to stretch a lot it's useless. My parents also bought me these primiostrech rings which you put in your foreskin they also didn't help. Like I've said 6 months on the cream plus the rings plus the stretching exercises I'm kinda over it... Is it more because the hole is small, rather than being tight? Is there any way they could make the hole bigger without removing it?

It's both so the skin is tight so the cream, stretching and hot water and stuff helps soften it but the skin can only stretch so much then it goes back to being tight. The hole was like less than half a cm with the cream and stuff I could get my fingers inside to stretch it but it's not enough cause the head is too big... Dr said the half circumcision there's name for it is dorsal or something like that doesn't look good and that your either cut or uncut not semi cut...

I have always had a tight foreskin growing up. When I was likely I kept trying to retractvit back and could not. I finally told my dad and we went to doctor and my foreskin was still stuck to my glans. Your not supposed to force it to retract so I was supposed to work it in the shower on my own. And the doctor said my foreskin looked like it might be tight.

Well in about 6 months I got it loose but it hurt a little more to retract it than what I imagined, my brothers and I are close and we are nudests and they gave me suggestions and I could retract it when I was masturbating but it hurt. My dad took me to doctor and I was prescribed cream and streaching rings, it took almost 7 months not to hurt to masturbation and I still use streaching rings.
Sorry I was so detailed.
