Tolkien because he created an entire universe with a deep history, made hundreds of characters and dozens of wars as well as inventing an entire language.

Personally I'd go for George Lucas. He made a fantastic franchise before he started ruining his films, and they're my favourite reality escape. :D

I decided to go Tolkien as well. I mean inventing an entire language?? What???!! To think, the movies we have seen are only a small part of the histories he had set up. So yea i am kinda intrigued what they do with the Amazon series because of that. So i chose him because that is so impressive!

BUT.....

Star Wars has my heart.

Mine too. If I could only watch one of the named franchises, that would be the one.

I wanted to answer something other than Disney, but I can’t because of the historical significance. One of the first to open doors to different platforms for his “universe” with theme parks on a massive scale, animated films in theaters back when it didn’t really exist yet, and numerous other things. Yes, I realize the company has pretty much sold out to everything, but it’s really difficult for me to pick anything else with all the stuff released under the Disney banner

I could never even consider stuff like Narnia (popular and good, but too small?) and Dragonball (as much as people like it and even with the amount of programs and books it has,it’s still incredibly niche to me) as an answer

True. I respect the man behind the House of Mouse and its humble beginnings. :)

But yea it does seem like Disney owns everything these days right????! Even..... Marvel and Star Wars. So technically you agree with Pultost and I. Thanks Cayce. :D

RyanIsGay24 what say you????

1. Game of Thrones
2. Lord of the Rings
3. Harry Potter
4. Marvel
5. Star Wars
6. Pokemon
7. Narnia
8. Star Trek
9. Dragon ball
10. Disney

I don’t hate Disney, not even close, I just don’t think it’s really a universe cuz very little of the movies are connected with each other

In terms of which individual creator did the most to define their universe, I would say Tolkien. I'm not much of a fan of the fantasy genre, but the amount of work he put into it, with detailed mythology, history, cultures, and relationships far surpasses that of most other creators.

As for the quality of the universes they created, I'll say I prefer the Star Trek, Marvel, and LOTR universes. Ironically I like them all for different reasons. Star Trek for its vast universe that tries to stay within the realm of possibility. LOTR due to its vast world building and detailed mythology with a deepness comparable to real-world history. And Marvel for a universe that's basically just fun :). As for the rest, I've never much liked the Star Wars universe. It tries to be serious sci-fi and classical fantasy at the same time and I've never liked that mesh. The "Disney" universe is so disconnected that I wouldn't even consider it a universe, and the other universes are things I've never been much interested in, so it wouldn't be fair for me to judge them.

if marvel is listed, DC should be to.

aside from the dc comics and animated series, there are ...

Smallville
Birds of Prey
Human Target

Gotham

up to the more connected series such as

[

Arrow
The Flash
Supergirl
Legends of Tomorrow

]

Preacher
Lucifer

Black Lightning
Titans
Doom Patrol

and not to forget Powerless (centered in the Bat-o-versum)

sure that's not the complete list, but all DC (live action) series I watched so far.

I like the DC series a lot, but if it comes to the movies, not so much, just the animated ones. But there's Marvel.

Walt Disney.

Before I was in pre-K, I remember watching The Mouseketeers and other Disney toons. The list of Disney animated films and cartoon are practically endless. Walt Disney was the pioneer of modern animation.

I do love me some Potterverse. What do you think of the Fantastic Beasts movies? :)

Ok but not nearly as good as the Harry Potter ones. I thought the second one was worse than the first and its main aim was to set up the third rather than being a good film by itself.
What do you think?
