I have to confess that I rolled my eyes at the title myself, but as long as it's good it doesn't matter if they call it "Star Wars: Wookies Take a Dump on Endor". :P

I'm pretty hyped. The repairing of the mask and lightsaber is kinda worrying to me because it suggests that JJ Abrams could try to undo some of the stuff done in TLJ. I wanted to see Rey get a badass sabre-staff or double-bladed lightsaber, not just carry the same old one around. Also, I really hope Rey doesn't turn out to be the daughter of Obi-Wan or Luke or anyone. I liked how Kylo said, "You're nobody...but not to me," in The Last Jedi. I liked the message that Rey's important because of what she does and what she can do - not because she's lucky enough to be born into the MOST IMPORTANT FAMILY IN THE GALAXY.
Also, seeing the Death Star and hearing Palpatine makes me a little worried that JJ Abrams might pull too much stuff from the old movies - like how The Force Awakens was a little too much like A New Hope. Still, I love me some Palpatine and I don't think I'll ever get tired of the visuals of these huge space ships in ruins on planets.
So I'm hyped but cautious. Will still probably see it twice in cinemas though.
BTW. How do you guys rank the Star Wars Movies. For me it goes:
1. V: The Empire Strikes Back
2. IV: A New Hope
3. VI: Return of the Jedi
4. Rogue One
5. VIII: The Last Jedi
6. VII: The Force Awakens
7. III: Revenge of the Sith
8. Solo
Big gap in liking here
Last place. Tie between I: The Phantom Menace and II: Attack of the Clones

This guy!!!
I'm freaking excited.
I really think Avengers: Endgame will end up being a better movie (I'm going to see it for my 3rd viewing asap...), but I'm holding on to hope that this will be a great movie.
It's a lot of pressure to wrap up an 8 movie story arc as culturally significant as Star Wars though and I'm not sure that J.J. Abrams can pull it off as a director. Episode 7 was my least favorite of every Star Wars movie ever made. But I'm hoping he pulls it off and delivers a film that we deserve, and that we want.
The Russo Brothers did it with Endgame. Oh my God did they ever do it with Endgame. That movie is pretty much perfect. Very few flaws whatsoever. As a movie, it is one of the best movies I have seen in the last 10 years and honestly, when one considers the narrative arc totally includes Infinity War as well, I believe that Avengers: Infinity War/Endgame has surpassed Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight" as the best superhero movie ever made.
But Star Wars is also so important to me. I grew up fighting my friends with plastic lightsabers, so I cannot wait to see how this unfolds.

Endgame was pretty good but I wasn't so enraptured with it. I think Endgame might be more enjoyable to people who are invested in the MCU but The Dark Knight is a more solid movie on just its own. The Dark Knight still has flaws though. I don't think anyone has made a truly brilliant comic book movie yet, though I haven't seen Into the Spiderverse yet and that's supposed to be really good.

The issue that I find with Star Wars is that the fanbase an be a little deluded as to the quality of the original films so become obsessively angry about the recent ones. If you rewatch the original trilogy with a critical eye you realise they were actually pretty mediocre - A New Hope was a low budget indie film that threw out a lot of references that it never planned on elaborating on since it never expected to be a phenomenon. Once it unexpectedly blew up, you can really see through its 2 sequels that George Lucas was desperately making it all up as he was going along - the Darth Vader father reveal had 0 lead up, Luke and Leia had so much chemistry written for them and then suddenly were secret siblings with 0 chemistry at all, Lando was just sort of dropped in as a replacement for Han since the plot still required a smart-mouthed swashbuckler amongst other weak points. They were altogether GOOD movies but not really the monoliths of film making that people revere them as these days. The fanbase lets its old nostalgia affect their enjoyment of the more recent films and it makes them blind to how much these films are pretty alright on their own. Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of issues with these movies too but they're not god awful. I'm really looking forward to seeing Episode IX to see how they end it all and I just pray I'm not sat with a bunch of sourfaced fanboys who will spend the whole time complaining about every minute detail.

The originals have their flaws, true. The few light saber duels which take place have poor choreography and seem slow and clumsy compared to the ones in the prequels, for example, just to mention one thing.
However, overall they are the "classics", so to speak, at least in my opinion, and I'm glad I had the chance to see the versions that Mr. Lucas didn't ruin, as I understand those are hard to come by today.
I rather enjoyed the prequels (with exception of the first one which I found boring), although there are things that don't make sense compared to the original trilogy *cough*midichlorians*cough*.
When it comes to all the negativity towards 7 and 8, I simply don't get it. Sure, they're not as great as the old ones, but whoa. I some times get the feeling that people have become too spoiled and raise the bar too high.

I think the choreography in the prequels goes too far the other way. They're too choreographed. They feel less real and lose a lot of emotions. Luke's fight with Vader in Episodes V and VI are a lot more atmospheric and emotional. Anakin vs Obi-Wan at least has emotion (the dialogue is pretty bad but at least they show some aggression in fights) but most of the fight is just fast rather than interesting. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan vs Darth Maul is more creative due to the double-bladed saber but doesn't have the level of emotional stakes. From a choreography perspective, I think the sequel fights are the best - Kylo vs Finn and Rey, Kylo and Rey vs Snoke's Guard - because they have a pragmatism and brutality that really sells the fight as being dangerous.

I didn't think much of that myself, I think they're alright, but the prequels sure fail in the dialogue department, on that we can agree. xD

Ummmm
I’m worried.
The trailer doesn’t tell me too much but a lot of my opinions are based on rumors in the press I’ve heard about the film, and the politics about the crew.
Cast is great nothing bad to say about the actors.
But I’m worried the characters have sub-par development and that the writing is going to push ReyLo shipping together.
For me if that happens, it feels unethical because her character is being paired with a guy who she watched kill his own father. It plays into the whole girl can redeem a bad boy trope.
Rumors also suggested her origin story has changed from what it was supposed to be in Force Awakens to something different in the development of this film. I can speak more specifically on this but don’t want to spoil anybody.
But what makes this point credible is Disney is going around copyright claiming the content of the youtubers who leaked the information. Why would a company do that if those images were fake?
Overall from a business management perspective it tells me someone didn’t flesh out a outline of beginning middle and end, and improvised each film without having smooth cohesion.
Star Wars films actually are episodic in nature and resemble TV show writing rather than normal movie script writing. It’s a space soap opera focused around one family and always was.
Disney making it about a statement on world affairs shifted the focus, and audiences felt that shift in focus in the writing.
Like if you agree with my analysis I’ve been thinking about this for a while.

Yea i might agree, but that is not a new idea with what we have seen before in Star Wars. Because Luke never gave up on redeeming his dad, even though dude straight up murdered Jedi children?
Also thanks for not being too specific on the rumors. I am trying to avoid any possible big spoilery stuff if i can help it. :)

You choose your lovers, you don’t choose your parents. That’s the difference.
Well the other difference is the relationship’s norms, I don’t think I need to express the difference between parental-child affection and that between those who are romantically linked.
Nobody knows who Rey is either, still after 2 films. The OT at least gave us a family tree partially by Empire Strikes Back.
That’s what I meant by the sequel trilogy feeling like it lacks cohesion, and that’s partially to blame because it’s been revealed by leaks that Rian Johnson wrote his script without really watching Force Awakens.
Like it’s still not explained why Rey had a map to find Luke from R2 anyway. It just happens because plot rather than some grand plan and of the new characters she’s the only one with force sensitivity. I would’ve loved to see Finn, Rose, Poe, all have some force abilities shown or manifesting in them to demonstrate film 7’s title. Not just Rey, especially the when the deaths of legacy characters are inevitable.
I would have wanted Rey to embark on developing or emphasizing the development of a Grey Jedi order, or a new expression of the force that addresses the flaws of both the Jedi and Sith orders.
The Jedi character has always been the quest seeker, exploring the mystical side of story lore, while the other characters focus on war and the drama of battles and relationships and it just was not well done.
Han should’ve died in episode 8, not 7, him not being available to writers on episode 8 closed a lot of potential creativity for the rest of the sequel trilogy.

Well I guess I do live up to my namesake afterall.
The cinematography is amazing though and I’m hoping JJ can bring it home, but I’ll be looking for plot points from TLJ that get undone by JJ’s script which would tell me there were hints of tug-of-war storytelling.
I also see your point too, the OT, was loosely improvised as well, and I know this because my 8th grade end of year project was about George Lucas’ life as we had to study someone famous.
Also the generation like gen X, baby boomers, and millenials are being stupidly upset at some arguments and it’s as you said they’re biased.
Like there’s nothing wrong with Rey being a Jedi naturally, it can be explained that she’s more of a grey Jedi meaning her trauma and anger of being abandoned gives her strength from the dark side. It’s well known dark side is a quick path to attaining power in the force. If that’s where this story goes for her I’ll be pleased immensely but I can only hope.
My main concern is I don’t want to spend $25 for a movie ticket (price without refreshments) Idk how much it costs where you are, but over here it’s expensive! I’d rather wait and see it on my personal big TV at home without dealing with crowds and bad smells.
Oh yeah, and theatre staff and computer controls where your exact seat is, there’s not like freedom to sit in a seat of your choice anymore, unlike even 10 years ago.

Movie tickets are expensive here as well, not sure if they'll cost exactly that much, but it's not far off, and that's without refreshments as well. I always get my movie snack in a regular store anyway, since the prices for those in the theater have definitely turned to the dark side....

Oh okay, i see where you are going with that now. I guess the most important thing to me is that i get an emotionally satisfying conclusion, however they choose to get there. :)
I never thought about it like that, I'm just going to enjoy the movie without analyzing too much. :)

Definitely.
Totally off topic, different movie series, in your critical opinion what happened to the vampire movie craze from 2008-2011, Ellen show kept inviting the cast on, and I’m sensing now the vampire trend is dying out. I mentioned it because it was kind of an action film but also romance, and there was a big disagreement over how the series ended because of the emotional split being unfulfilling.
Just demonstrating how important emotional character and plot conclusions are for the legacy of a brand.
I personally didn’t really like it, but I was like the younger tag-along kid with a few of my cousins either in theatres or eventually on DVD during holiday breaks.
