Well it's normal for you. Some guys have hairy butts and bodies and some don't. That is just how nature works.

I have a friend whose cheeks are almost hairless, but he has a forest of dark hair in his crack.

no worries, its perfectly fine, perfectly normal - some guys get it and some guys dont and you just happen to be one of those guys.

But it's certainly normal for guys to have hair there. Some people are hairier than others. I have a friend whose legs and butt are hairy but he has no chest or stomach hair. There's a lot of possible variation.

Mine started at 14 or 15, i cannot remember, and yeah i shave it too. it looks and feels better.

Well, I just go by touch tbh. I just use a disposable safety razor (in particular, a two-bladed model with the sort of line of gel thingy but you could probably get results with any decent disposable razor as long as it isn't super aggressive), feel where there is hair and feel which way the hair goes and then gently shave it. I try to hold the skin taut when I shave it. I do this in the shower.

No, I haven't tried it. Using harsh chemicals around sensitive areas that I can't see well unnerves me.

It’s absolutely normal I think. I saw some guys who had hairy butt not only crack. I saw quite a lot of hair on my butt crack though I almost never look at this
