Basically recently my mom/sis and some other girls I know have been mentioning how certain studies show that pit hair lead to B.O. and my mom/sis are pressuring em to shave it off because of that. Are they right or is this just bull?

Not sure about BO as keeping clean regular showers and baths and fresh clothes helps prevent BO.
I shave as do my bros -mu opinion is it is cleaner and less sweaty. But that is our choice you make yours.

It almost seems like a mental trick. I had to do it once for sports and I found that it didn't change anything while my brother swears by it and claims it does wonders. Truthfully I think it depends on what type of activities you do. If you do sports and are active them you might wanna try shaving them and see what happens.

I shave them because I hate how hairy they get and it actually grosses me out to see the pits of my dad and brother because they don't... I don't know too much about BO but pit hair just looks horrible and I'd advise shaving it for that reason if not any more

I think you should do whatever you want to do. It's your hair, your body, not theirs.

Shaving alone WILL NOT eliminate the possiblity of sweat causing BO. Now u can choose to to shave because of the feeling or whatever, but even with shaved pits, good hygiene and anti-persperint deoderant is what will eliminate or reduce the possibilty of unpleasant BO.

I think its just better to shave your pits
Looks better and I think it reduces the chance of Bo

leave it alone IMO. I have hairy pits and don't have any BO problems, just a matter of taking regular showers and all.

Indeed, your pits are going to stick regardless if you aren't hygienic. I don't shave mine and I don't have issues with BO either.

I guess it has an influence but if you get a shower daily and use a deodorant you should be OK.

Keep yourself clean and you'll smell fine. Why do your sister and mother care SO much about your hygiene? First bubble baths then this..

it may look nicer, but if you shower daily, arm pit hair or shaved won't make much of a difference. it's simple,if the armpit hair is clean, it won't smell.

@Tyler
Simplicity is my Achilles Heel, I must admit :) so thanks for the xplanation
@Hannah
They say they care about me and don't want me to get teased for my bad hygiene (mom's been bullied a lot), sis-I don't know what her take is

didn't vote because i don't agree with either answer. a shower or bath and deodorant will take care of smells, and if you want to shave its your choice and i wouldn't think it was stupid

Fair enough, thanks for giving a valid, concrete answer and helpful advice :)
@Ellie
Good to know. Sadly that has nothing to do with this topic as a) I don't have a downstairs
b) it has nothing to do with pit smell.
Wow, the votes stay really close together. Odd that

Yeah right.
I think it's merely personal preference. If you shower and wash on a daily basis you are fine.

Whether you shave is up to you, but I know that when I go a few days without [-]showering[/-] shaving, I feel like I get sweatier and am more prone to BO. Though I shower daily so it's not much of a problem.
EDIT - A few days without shaving. I DO NOT go a few days without showering lol.
But out of curiosity I did some googling and this is something I found. Simple and to the point.
Armpit hairs can slow down sweat evaporation and trap oils and smells. But even if you shave closely, if you don't keep the armpit clean, you can have an odor. Some people also need a deodorant or antiperspirant to keep odors down.

No problem. So I guess they're not totally crazy and making it up, but it's still your choice. It's kind of odd that they'd pressure you into shaving, since you're a guy. I mean, they shouldn't anyway, but it's especially weird in your case.
Also, I fixed my post to make more sense. I had meant to say "go a few days without shaving" not showering. :)

Aww, I thought ti was awesome you'd have the guts to go a few days without showering. So much more hardcore.
Why is it weird in my case though?

One or two maybe, no more though, sorry lol. Mostly because my hair gets gross quickly.
Well, if you were a girl it would make sense that you were being pressured into shaving, but I've never heard of guys being pressured to shave their armpits.
