My dog was put to sleep today. He was 14 and getting sicker and he was having trouble jumping and standing up and he was becoming more and more miserable :(. I know it was for the best, as opposed to prolonging his suffering. He was such a good boy and I’ll miss him forever :(:(. Who else has gone through this? What did you do to cope? :’(

I'm so sorry for your loss. There's no easy way to get over it fast, and I know it's hard to make a decision like that, but letting him live and suffer when there's nothing to do wouldn't have been right. Only I advice I can give is to keep yourself busy and think about other things. I know it's easier said than done, but that's at least what I do during times like that. Hang in there.

Ryan Im sorry that u r hurting and I know how
hard it is to try and cope with the loss of a pet.
I have gone thru myself with having to put my
first dog down but u have to realize that it is the
only solution when ur pet no longer can manage.
The best thing is to remember the good times u
had and those memories stay in ur heart forever.

Ow that sucks :( I know what it's like, and only time can help. Try to get busy and not thinking too much about it, and keep the happy memories. Maybe in a few weeks or months you could get another dog, one from a shelter would be better, there's always a doggo out there looking for love and a home. Don't think of the new one as a replacement, but as a new friend to give as much love as you gave to your previous dog.

I’m so sorry for your loss Ryan :( Losing a dog hurts because they are both a part of your family and also a good friend. I’m sure his spirit will always be around you and that you’ll honor his memory by never forgetting how he made you feel

I'm so sorry about your dog-- I'm sure he really was a good boy. All dogs are! I just lost my own beloved pet a few days before your dog was put to sleep, so I understand your pain right now. What's been helping me is thinking that, well, for one, your pet is in a better place right now. He's no longer suffering. I don't know if you believe in the afterlife, but regardless of what's out there, your dog's at peace. You made the right choice in letting him go even if it hurt you more; it shows just how much you love him.

I also like to think our pets who have passed away wouldn't want us to be sad for them all the time. Yes, you need to give yourself time to grieve your loss, but you should also take time to do things you enjoy and take care of yourself throughout the process. For me, baking chocolate cake and talking about my feelings with a friend has really helped.

Maybe do something nice to commemorate your pet if it helps, too. I know some people keep their pet's ashes in a little urn, or make a photobook of them. I hope you feel better soon and remember-- you're not alone in this difficult time.

Thanks so much, I miss him a lot. I’m doing better now and I know it was the right choice. Doesn’t make sense to let him suffer like that :(. But thank you for asking. Everyone has been so helpful :)

I have not gone through it yet but that day is coming. So, I make sure I love my dog no matter what -- he is old, poops a lot, and that pisses me off but I don't get angry at him. I know it's only downhill from here, so i just love him as much as i can and let him love me back. i am thankful i have the years to spend with him. that keeps me feeling better when i think of having to put him to sleep. so i suggest just think of how much love you gave your dog, and him giving it back, and know that you did the right thing for him man. if he was in pain, you made the right decision.

Im so sorry thats the worst thing to deal with. It was even harder than losing my granparents. I convinced my parents to get me a puppy and put all my effort into my new best buddy, but i will never forget my first dog he literally was older than me when he passed away
