Cars just doesn't have as an interesting a story or as emotionally-complex characters as most other Pixar movies. Cars feels a lot more like a kids movies made by some other company. Kinda gets ragged on because it was kinda the first meh Pixar movie after a string of hits (if you ask me though, A Bug's Life wasn't so hot either). And then the fact that they made a lot more sequels than other better-reviewed movies pretty blatantly because Cars does well at selling toys and other merchandise.
