boxer are basically shorts but in a more comfortable material, boxer briefs are the same cut just a different material and they are fitted to the leg, some people confuse boxer briefs for trunks, which have a square cut and are fitted to the leg.

Looking at catalogues it appears to be a bit variable.
As far as I can see there are basically two things that vary with underwear: the leg line and "support".
Briefs have a high leg line, i.e. the come the least far down your leg and they provide the most support, i.e. they tend to hold everything close together so there isn't that much movement.
Boxers are the opposite with a lower leg line and no support, i.e. everything is free to hang and move naturally.
Boxer briefs can have some of the support of briefs and may have a higher leg line that boxers but maybe not depending on the particular style.

I agree with what the others above me say but lol if you're picking one of them definitely go for the boxer-briefs..better fit..easier to put on clothes..and showoff more to girls or whoever you might wanna impress when out ;)

Boxer briefs are usually tighter than boxers, they usually have wide waistband (often with name) and boxers are looser ones.

I agree. Boxer briefs are the best choice (they are the most popular in the US for guys).
They provide some support for the boys but not so much that they are constricted (with a possible effect on sperm count as studies have shown).
Boxers are too loose and potentially allows everything to move too much. They're a compromise that has the best of both worlds.
Not that anyone asked, but I am a fan of the Costco Kirkland boxer briefs.

Boxer briefs offer more support and are more form fitting, like briefs, but are longer material, like boxers. Boxer briefs are kinda like the middle ground: you'll find a lot of guys who wear both boxers and boxer briefs and some guys who wear briefs and boxer briefs.

As for me, I have always called "boxer briefs" what is shown as "trunks" in the image above. The difference is tiny and some brands don't make the difference.
I personally prefer boxers because of the freedom.

This is a good explanation for the difference between boxers and boxer briefs. I prefer wearing briefs or boxer briefs as opposed to boxers. Briefs and boxer briefs give more comfort and support to my junk, IMHO. But the majority of my friends are boxer wearing. It's just a matter of personal choice.

Boxers are a very stiff material but baggy on your junk. Briefs are tight spandex like material that really holds things in place. I have tried wearing both and I just can’t wear boxers and be comfortable. They are too stiff when you don’t want them to be and too loose when you want them to be. I usually don’t wear underwear but the only underwear I do own is briefs.
