I'm sorry to hear that as well. I have to agree that he must see your friendship as being totally important to him at this time and doesn't want to risk messing that up. Keep being friends and do stuff together. You never know, he could see things differently in the future.

I’m sorry that you have to go though what must be a bit of a heartbreak. I agree with the others above that he values your friendship and maybe doesn’t want to do anything to put it at risk. If you are still interested in him you should give it some time and not pressure the situation at all. I hope in the future that you both can get what want out of your relationship :)

Funny I JUST posted about asking out a boy i like... which i am still putting off... because i am afraid of that exact response!! Yea it really hurts, but at least you don't gotta regret that you did not take that chance and don't have to always wonder "what if" and like others have said, you can work on the friendship and who knows things might change?

Maddy, you are not ugly and he must like you or he wouldn't be your friend. I don't think he is trying to be mean or hurtful by politely declining to take your friendship in a different direction at this time. As several of us have written, he most likely values you as a friend and doesn't want that to change if the romantic part didn't work out. It's kinda hard to maintain a friendship once romance ends.
