This may be an odd question to ask but would any of you guys say that being in a relationship when you are depressed would help you deal or at least make you feel better?

Kinda Curious (sorry in advance if this doesn't make sense)

I would say it would help take out the lonely, empty feeling that a depressed person usually feels. However, such relief only comes from relying on others for comfort, and therefore is temporary. Much like any other temporary relief, such as nicotine or alcohol, one might become dependent on the other person to feel better, and this could potentially ruin a relationship.

that being said, i kinda can’t help but long for that kind of intimate comfort and support that relationships offer

I'd say avoid one if you're depressed personally. It might be fine at first, but it can really drain both of you after a while. especially if you or the person you're with is unstable. It can just generally become unfun to be around each other.

Don't get in a relationship because you think you can "fix" someone either. that always ends in tears.

If you're depressed then relationship isn't the solution. Its like losing your keys in the dark, and look for them in some other place which is light. Also, if it doesn't work out after a while it also makes you even more depressed.

Depends on what I was depressed about.

I have based my self worth on the looks of the girl I show up with. This type of superficial well being does not last and never a dresses the real problem.

When I was older, with a car, I went out with a couple younger girls that brought me to their school events and then began to show public displays of affection with me. I notice them checking out who's looking. So I guess girls do it too.

I think it would be helpful because there is someone to keep you company and help feel better. I love the idea.
