View Full Version : Christmas is supposed to be happy

I'm 16, my parents are divorced since I was 14, and I live in a small apartment with just my mom. There are plenty of people far worse off than me, but all the Christmas emphasis on "The most happy time of the year", and all that other bullsh*t really got me down this year. Especially today. (Santa brought me a new pair of jeans...that fit. That's it.)
Today is Christmas and I'm hoping my dad will at least call and wish me a Merry Christmas. Nothing yet. Still waiting and hoping.
So, for anyone else out there not feeling the Christmas spirit right now, you are not alone. But we'll all be okay, and I'm wishing YOU too will have better and happier times ahead.

I try not to let other people affect my happiness.... I can relate to your situation... my parents divorced when I was 6. I used to wait around on my birthday and Christmas to see if I'd get a card or call... that never came... now that he's deceased never will. Bottom line is this the only person that can make you happy is you... surround yourself with friends and family that care about you.

Yeah, relatable. A lot of my holidays have been fucked over because of my family issues or money issues (a lot of times my parents can’t afford gifts, or barely can afford a tree or decorations). This year is sad too, as my mom doesn’t live in the country anymore so it’s very lonely, not being able to see her.
Like Matt said, just surround yourself with positives and try not to let this harm your happiness too much. Just focus on what you do have, and your family and friends that are around, and be grateful for all the love that is provided for you

Yeah a lot of people can be going through a tough time and xmas can heighten that. Do not judge yourself by what others get. If your dad did not call that's his loss. You were with your mum and she loves you. That's all that counts

I'm a little late to the conversation, but this idea that this is the best time of the year and all family oriented and stuff, is part of what makes this time of the year so stressful for many people.
I'm sorry this holiday was not good for you. Hopefully you can begin to develop some of your own traditions, which don't rely on money or expectations of people who have been unreliable in your life.

I totally agree. I think that since xmas is "supposed to be the best time, ppl hold it to unrealistic expectations
