View Full Version : Trolling tech support scammers

So lately, I have been calling tech support scammers (I find their number by misspelling domain names which often redirects to fake virus popups with their phone number) to waste their time. I think it is quite fun and also wastes their time so they have less time to scam people. I also post their phone number on scambaiting forums so that other scambaiters can also waste their time.
So basically, I am using free VOIP phone services that I'm fine with getting random spam calls, and a virtual machine that I have a backup of so I don't care if the scammer installs malware or anything.
My objective is to try to pretend to be dumb and not know much about technology, and at the same time, asking many questions to keep them on the line as long as possible.
What do you think of this?

personally i think its a damn good idea..
if i may be so bold, i'd suggest recording audio of your exploits to take note of what led to them eventually catch on in order to improve the time their on the line.... and to show folks on the fourms what makes that particular scammer tick.

what are the scammer's reactions when they find out you're trolling them?

I do this too. There are forums for people to share scammers' contact information, which is where I usually get their phone numbers from, and I also use typosquat domains which redirect to scam websites to see if I will get a tech support scam fake error message.

For me, I often get "what the f***", "throw your computer out the window", "don't call us again and we will file a lawsuit against you", "f*** yourself, motherf***er", etc. They often block my number, but I often use caller ID spoofing.

I often get spam calls. One time I told a bunch of people one of the spam callers numbers and he got super mad :D

Pretty much just shouting a bunch of profanity, and shitty phrases like "shove your phone up your ass and don't call us again", "throw your computer in the dumpster and never call us again", "fuck your daddy, motherfucker", etc.
