View Full Version : early or late puberty

I hit puberty at 10, and think that's quite early. Though I 've heard boys as young as n9 and girls of 8 starting. I felt none of my friends had started, and didn't know what was going on. How did you find it if you were early.
Similarly, those who started late, what was it like watching others grow, with nothing happening?

The new feelings puberty brings started about the age of 9 for me. Boobs and pubic hair started slowly about a year later.

I got my period right around my 11th birthday which I think is early compared to lots of girls I know, but at the same time I know of others as young as 8 or 9 and some who are 16 and still haven't started theirs.

Even though mine started at 11, and I got pubic hair at 13 which seems about right, I still have no breast development at 15 1/2.

Definitely late. Quite frustrating to see others changing and me not doing anything. My voice has only started getting deeper this year and I'm 16. I'm still 5'3" and not even over 100 lbs. :(

I'm definitely late at 16 and no period or breasts. I have a few light strands of pubic hair but it's coming in very slowly. It hasn't bothered me too much and I am taller than most girls my age and have a lot of muscle tone. Not having periods is a plus. Other than being completely flat, you can't really tell that I'm late.

I was pretty early too. Mostly it was just having a comment or two about the fact that I had a peach fuzz mustache for a long time before anybody else and I was hairier in generally later on. I also had and have a lot of stretch marks because of the growth spurts. We all got to roughly the same level pretty quickly though.

Same! I am 15 and rocking the AA cups. No period yet, but my friends say they are envious of ME because of that, so i am fine with it haha. Although if my little sis starts, that could be super awkward! But i am a bit short though.

My cousin has been the same way, she was 15 no pubes or boobs. I was very much the opposite I had pubes very early on and boobs too. But in about 3 months of me masturbating with her which she didn’t do much of that anyway she had her period and started growing pubes and boobs. Do you have the desirer to masturbate?

I was told that boys start puberty approx. 2 years later than girls. From what I read on here, the gap doesn't seem to be quite that much on average.

By the way, I started puberty at just 12 years old.

It's a little bit confusing. If you do a Google search it says that if you have not started puberty by the age of 14 But I see and read so many people starting at age 11 and 12.

I was early. I haven't kept any kind of diary but I do have a couple of reference points:
1. By the time of the sex-ed lessons in the autumn term of my first year of secondary school (UK 7th year, USA Grade 6) I could already ejaculate. That would make me about 11 3/4.
2. By the end of that school year someone from my primary school commented that my voice was deeper so this would have been at about 12 1/2.

Of the two I think this is the easier way round. There is certainly the thing that you are having thoughts or doing things your classmates don't yet understand, though being in scouts which is mixed age range and finding the older boys shared those thoughts certainly helped. I also got some teasing about having "monster" cock, i.e. because it has started to grow before most of theirs. That didn't bother me, I just wrote it off as jealousy.

I was told that boys start puberty approx. 2 years later than girls. From what I read on here, the gap doesn't seem to be quite that much on average.

You may get a different answer depending on what you look at. Growth in height is definitely quite different between the two with boys being later. There's a good reason for that because the growth spurt and subsequent growth plate fusion are due to oestrogen. Girls produce oestrogens directly whereas in boys they are a side effect of producing testosterone so a boy needs to be much further into puberty for his oestrogen level for be high enough for that growth spurt.

I read somewhere that girls could get pubes as early as 8, boys 9 and it would be considered OK. before that it Early puberty was called Precocious puberty (nothing at 16 is delayed puberty). The worrying thing I read was about 50 years ago that figure was something like 1 in 50 girls, where as now it's like 1 in 8. In the last 100 years it seems yo have physically gotten earlier for some, which means we as a generation are now having to cope emotionally at a younger age

Has any of these things happened ?
- balls growing and dropping away from your stomach (hanging lower)
- penis growing
- started to grow quickly in height
- voice starting to change / break at akwards times
- pubes starting to grow
- hairs on the rest of the body (leg, arms, armpits)

if so, then you have started :)

I am 13 and haven't really started puberty yet from what I read. I took the Tanner Stage Survey posted on another thread and it gave me a 1.5 rating. It is frustrating to be behind my friends. Most of them are growing and have pubes and talk about other changes that I am not having yet. And I was one of the taller boys in 4th and 5th grades and now I am shorter than most of the boys and some of the girls too. I know it is supposed to start soon, but I am still frustrated that none of the obvious changes that other people can see have happened yet.

I think this true too. nobody in my family is very big. My dad is about average, only 5'8". Mom is about 5ft, but tells people she is 5'2". I am about 4'9" and my sister is about the same (she is 11). My Brother is 16, and only 5'2". He didn't start to mature until he was 14.5, and is a lot smaller than his friends.

Even though I am smaller than most girls, guys have always liked me. I remember when I was 10 and started to grow boobs, older boys started to notice me and flirt with me a lot. My sister is kinda of the same, lots of guys flirt with her all the time and she flirts with them back. People still kinda think my brother is about 13-14 most of the time because he looks a lot younger and he is shorter. He is kinda good at some sports, but its still kinda hard for him to play against guys that are lots bigger.

KatieCO2003

Heh, I wish I got "cute" all the time. I used to get "do you think that's a boy or a girl?". Now I get "She sure-as-hell ain't no 15. She'd have tits if she was 15". I started very late due to a traumatic injury and several long stints in the ICU recovering. Also, I'm only 4'10" and very thin. But as bad as it is for me, I can imagine that it would be a lot worse for a guy.
