Hey guys!! I finally turned 18 yesterday!

I have had trouble sleeping for the past few months and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to sleep better? I nornslly wear pajama pants and a t shirt to bed but i find it to be very warm and it almost feels suffocating. I would sleep in underwear or even naked but in feel like it's weird to do that and i also don't have a lock on my bedroom door and j don't wanna risk someone walking in. What should i do? I would appreciate any help :)

Also, what do you guys wear to bed? Is sleeping naked normal? It seems gross to me kinda lol

Thanks :)

Happy birthday !
Try to find your own sleep routine. Some ppl train their brain to «*program*» their body to be ready for bed.
Sleeping naked helps a lot with body temperature regulation too so it may be great to give it a try.

I know someone who didnt sleep naked but tried to do so during a week and now he can only sleep naked.

Personally I ve slept naked all my life so i dont find it weird at all and to prepare my brain to go sleeping i take a shower right before bed. That way my brain knows that shower=bedtime and it helps a lot.

One of my friends stays naked in his room before sleeping so his brain knows that nudity=bedtime.

If ur parents are not confortable with nudity maybe u can talk with them about that and they wouldnt find any problem with it

I wear boxers to sleep. There is nothing
out of the ordinary to wearing underwear
to bed even if someone sees u. Naked is
another thing if u have privacy but there
is nothing wrong in that also if u don't feel
comfortable with clothes. Other than that
I would say get enough exercise to get u
tired enough to fall asleep.

BTW-Happy 18th.

I try to get a good temperature to stay comfy. I get quite hot at night

I don't sleep naked but sometimes I won't wear a t-shirt if it's very hot (usually I wear boxer briefs and a t-shirt)

I do sleep naked most of the summer, and just in boxers on winter

I have also slowly changed over to only sleeping naked, starting when I was around 11. Now I sleep naked all year to great effect. It gets very hot here and for me, it's the best way to keep comfortable all night. It's definitely normal and has health benefits too. You might want to change your bedsheets more often though.

Would you terribly mind anyone you know seeing you naked and do people just come into your room like that?

Sometimes I wake up at night too and to me its all about temperature (I sleep better in the cold) and also having something like a fan making some kind of whirring noise. Also I sleep better when its raining. Also wearing socks to bed feels weird to me.

I usually just sleep in my underwear, in the winter I might wear pyjama pants. I'm not sure what to say about sleeping better. I like it when our bedroom is a little bit on the cool side. Or sometimes I'll read something before bed and that helps me fall asleep.

I just sleep in my undies myself. I may wear a T-shirt on cold winter nights. What's the big deal if someone sees you in your undies? You are still dressed.

Since I share a room with my bro I wear undies and a shirt to bed. we don't have a problem being naked together but it is just better if we at least wear underwear to bed.

Sleeping naked isnt weird. I usually do it or wear my underwear to bed. PJ's plus sheets and blankets can get too warm at night.

What you wear to sleep probably does not matter as much as how you sleep, and the consitency of your sleeping schedule

whatever is comfortable.
You can always remove clothing if you feel like its necesarry

I usually sleep in just a t-shirt and my underwear, if it's really hot maybe just underwear. Usually my covers are warm enough that even when it gets colder I'm still alright in just a t-shirt and underwear. And for me that has always been pretty comfortable, def way more comfortable than wearing pants or anything more than that. What you wear to sleep definitely matters because it's important to feel cool; when you feel too warm or hot it just becomes really uncomfortable and too difficult to fall asleep. In terms of being embarrassed about sleeping in your underwear, you shouldn't be, just start doing it as routine, don't make a big deal out of it and if anyone else happens to see you they will get used to it as well if you make it the new norm.

I often have trouble falling asleep as well as staying asleep unfortunately, which really sucks. I often wake up due to bad dreams or stuff like that. I have found sometimes (not always though) that some of the following may help you. But these things are largely hit and miss and can vary even from day to day (as in for me they might work on a certain night but not on the next night):

-I either listen to calm (usually instrumental) music to help me, or otherwise there are white noise apps that can provide a constant background noise to help relax yourself and maybe let you sleep.

-Just exercising and being active during the day so that you are tired enough by the time you are ready to go to sleep - tired enough that you will more easily be able to fall asleep.

- Keeping a constant sleep schedule is important. Be consistent in when you wake up and go to sleep because if you go to sleep really late some days but not so for others, (or wake up really late some days but really early other days) it's going to really throw your sleep cycles out of control and will make it really hard for you to fall asleep.

-Last thing: could also try to take melatonin (as a supplement that you can buy anywhere and take about half an hour before you want to go to sleep). its ordinarily a hormone produced by your body to regulate sleep cycle and such; people who travel across time zones sometimes take this to readjust their sleep schedules). However, with melatonin you should be very careful because you could develop a dependency for it in that if you take it too often it will get to the point where you won't ever be able to sleep unless you take melatonin.

I've been sleeping in just my underwear (briefs-no t-shirt) for as long as I can remember. I sleep naked in the summer, but keep a pair of briefs under my pillow so I can slip them on in the morning when I get out of bed.

Tbh not sure that what you wear has much to do with sleeping unless its like coat and scarf and walking boots!
More to do with worrying about stuff or over exiting your brain with computer stuff.
I wear more in winter and less in summer!

I sleep in my underwear most of the time and sometimes naked.
I would try either wearing your shirt and underwear or your pj's and no shirt. any combination is fine

There are lots you can do to help you sleep.

1. Drink a soothing warm milky drink before going to bed.
2. Don't use your computer, especially if you play games, right before you go to bed.
3. Don't even watch television or movies before you try to sleep.
4. Reading a book you enjoy might help relax you.
5. Always wear the minimum possible in bed, preferably just underwear or nothing at all. You can always put things on to get warm.
6. Do all your thinking before you go to bed. If your mind is clear and not worrying about the next day, then you should fall asleep more easily.
7. If you're not asleep within 30 minutes of going to bed, then you weren't tired enough. So get up, do something, then go back to bed and try again.

I hope some of that helps you.

I can't see what would be gross about sleeping in just underwear and that would be pretty close to being as good for temperature regulation as being completely naked.

Absolutely right, Hermes. There's nothing gross about it at all.

I’ve recently started sleeping naked. It feels so much better. I’ve been afraid that my mom comes to my bedroom, see me naked and asks me to stop doing it :) But I understand now that it’s only me who can choose what will I sleep in. If you’re afraid that parents will see you naked don’t worry. They have seen you naked since childhood.

It will feel weird to begin with as its something new, but as you do it more often, it will be more normal and you'll like it. Wearing clothes in bed would feel weird then. I always sleep naked due to having a lock. With your issue, just tell your parents to not come in and maybe get a sign to remind them not to

i normally sleep naked because its comfortable and my body regulates its temp much better than when I am wearing any type of clothing. Try sleeping without a T on and just in your unders and see if that helps you to stay cool any.

Man, you're 18. Congrats on the birthday! Really I am in the same position as you, I wear a full Pyjama set to bed but often find it very warm when under the cover. Really I just have a weird habbit of sleeping with half the cover on lol. For me, if someone slept naked I would respect it but I would be weirded out. Sometimes I just have the PJ bottoms and take off the shirt. Maybe that will help? I'm not too sure.

I sleep shirtless in just my boxers. If I wear a shirt to sleep, it feels like I’m being strangled.

I used to feel the same way when I was younger and probably still would if I slept with clothes on. Sleeping naked for me helps with temperature regulation as others have said, and honestly it's probably a lot more normal than you'd think, if the statistics of people around here have anything to say about it. I recommend trying it out at some point. As for people coming to your room and seeing you, I would recommend telling your housemates to knock before entering, or otherwise cover up with blankets and stuff.

Happy Birthday by the way!
