I've noticed that my voice is deeper than it was a while ago, however it only occasionally cracks àbut some guys at school can't even finish a sentence without theirs cracking at least 10 times. Is it normal for a voice to change but not crack alot?

Yes, it is, everyone is different and that’s very normal

Mine is definitely deeper now than it was a year ago, but I don't notice much cracking at all. It doesn't happen to everyone.

My voice is significantly deeper and I don't consistently get voice cracks, only on rare occasions so I guess it varies from person to person.

I hope it is normal as that is exactly what happened to me - it gradually got deeper and I don't remember any cracking.

I think the speed with which it changes has a bearing on this. In my case, by the end of our school year 7 (11-12, American 6th grade) it had changed enough that when I spoke to some friends from the primary school I had left the year previously they commented on it. It wasn't completely settled by then, though, as in year 8 (12-13, American 7th Grade) there were a couple of notes I could not sing, though I could sing both lower and higher than them which was a bit odd. These were well above the range I would normally talk in, though. I can sing those notes now but I am not sure if further physical change or just better coordination is responsible for that.

The other thing I believe has an effect is how much control over your voice you have in the first place. if you sing, for example, that can make the transition easier.

Finally, I think there is something about how our brains work. If you try to maintain the same speaking pitch even as your larynx grows, because your brain has a very strong memory of what your voice "should sound like", that means as your vocal folds get bigger you have to apply more tension to them to get the same pitch, i.e. you are speaking relatively higher in your vocal range. Eventually, there comes a point where this is no longer possible and at that point you probably "flip" to the same pitch an octave down which can seem very sudden. On the other hand if you "go with the flow", i.e. apply the same tension to your vocal folds and not worry about what pitch results you will find that the pitch gradually lowers over time.

It is totally normal for a voice to change and not to crack. At least your voice change is happening gradually as opposed to being embarrassed by having a voice crack. Chances are your voice will change over time as opposed to suddenly like some boys.

I didn't really go through a voice crack phase, now it's fairly deep and doesn't crack at all (well rarely)

Mine just steadily went deeper. Didn't literally just crack right away

I said I thought it was related to the speed of the change but how much it changes and how fast could be related. The puppies of big breeds of dog get bigger than those of smaller breeds by growing faster, rather than for longer. So, if the same applies here, the further you voice has to go to get to its adult pitch the faster it is likely to change to get there.

Sure it's normal. We all go through puberty and change in different ways.
