A guy at school has asked if I want to go out for something to eat after school tomorrow, I don’t know if he is asking as a friend or wants to be more we have been friends for a year and I have always liked him and always walk home together even when he had a girlfriend who he has now broken up with I don’t want people think I waited for them especially her to break up before going out with him

I'd say if you like him as a friend, go with him and you'll find out the answers to your questions. Friends can casually go grab something to eat, and if there's any romantic interests, that should become obvious in days to come.
