I still feel the same from when I made the thread, 'I'm contemplating suicide".Actually probably worse. I still really want to die, & I contemplated everyday, & I do have a plan.

So, what will my therapist do if I tell her this?

I don't know if it's required if you're over 18 (or however it works), but i know that the service i go to and at my age that if I were to say i was suicidal they would call the police or take other actions.

Don't let that discourage you from telling a therapist though; it's really important that you do because they really can help! Or if you still don't want to tell a therapist now, I'm always available :)

I think there is a big difference between saying you have chronic thoughts of suicide and saying you are going to kill yourself that day. That's what the police would react to. Like the difference between you saying you think about robbing liquor stores, and "I am definitely going to rob a liquor store tonight". No therapist is going to hit the panic button over being told what was written here.

A very nice illustration.

It depends how you explain your problem.
I really advise you to go and tell your therapist about your current problem. At least it will be a release for you.

She will try to help you. That's her job.

Exactly. I have a history of self-harm and suicidal thoughts/actions/attempts, and my therapist knows about this. No one was contacted about anything, because it wasn't brought up to be current (for this very reason...)

But when I had a meltdown in therapy the other day, my therapist asked me if I was thinking about hurting myself, and I kind of nodded, and that prompted (shit to hit the fan in my family, but it actually ended pretty well) a call from him the next day, along with a suggestion to go on medication. Because now it is like officially recognized that my moods are haywire, I guess.

Anyways, if you don't feel like an intervention, but you want to get it out there, tell them you've felt like this before. If you feel like you NEED an intervention or something, or that you feel like you're an immediate danger to yourself, and you need urgent help, then I'd suggest telling them you still feel this way-but realize that at the very least, it's on your file, and parents will be contacted, and depending on what you tell them, you could end up hospitalized.

Unless you actually attempted, I doubt it'd turn out that way, but it could.

They only are required to involve authorities if they believe there's a real immediate risk. In most cases, suicidal thoughts do not require such involvement with authorities.

Anyway, back on topic..
You haven't provided much details of your exact situation, so I'll try to cover everything here for you.

If you know exactly why you feel the way you do, telling your therapist is the best idea; they're very helpful! I would mention the suicidal thoughts, but I personally would avoid going into too much detail on the matter due to the fact if you know what causes it, solving that will solve it anyway; they won't need to know all the details in that case.

If you don't know what causes it or it's something that can not be easily explained (random feelings of anxiety, depression, etc), then your best bet will be to see a psychologist, assuming you aren't already. Psychologist is pretty much simply a type of therapist who can also prescribe medication. If you're not sure why you feel the way you do, medication is usually the best way to go. It's quite trial and error with what tablets work for what persons, once you find one that works perfect for you things will feel a lot better though.

If I neither of these cover your situation, feel free to notify me and I'll see if I can help with advice for your exact situation. :yeah:
