I agree with the others, and you also should make sure that your underwear is not too tight and that your pants or shorts are not too tight either. Baggy clothing is your friend.

I think the "interested in you" bit here is key. Generally, a girl that fancies you will be flattered if she has turned you on and if you have a boner then that will be saying to her that she has indeed turned you on.

In general, girls do tend to be creeped out if they find they have turned on some random stranger they don't fancy. Not sure how it is with a boy who is a friend but whom she doesn't think about in a sexual way. You could always ask in the "puberty for all" section to see how girls feel about that.
