TL;DR: How would I go about talking to a female friend with intentions to get to know them, while not coming off as a douche trying to get into their pants.
My semester for junior year in high school has just started, and I've noticed that a girl that I've always been interested in is also in the same class.
To give you some back story, she went to my junior high school and elementary school but we never had classes together because she was in french classes (I live in Canada) so we hadn't talked until grade 8 when all the students went on a 6 hour 2 day trip to another big city, where we went to malls and were in hotels. I was also friends with her friends at that time;long story short some rumors were made and somehow her friends didn't like me for reasons I still don't know for sure of today. However, the first day of high school she was originally in one of my classes, and the second she saw me sitting in the class, she got really excited and quickly sat beside me. Of course this made me so happy because I was caught by surprise and this girl is beautiful and very popular, but also very academic and does not act petty like other popular girls. when the teacher called for attendance, her name wasn't called and turns out her schedule changed and was no longer in my class anymore. I don't think I've ever been so disappointed in my life. This was the one chance that was given to me to finally have some personal talk with this girl so I could get to know her more.
So fast forward now in grade 11, we have an advanced science class together with a really small class (The class isn't required so most people don't take it unless they need it for university) and things started off a little weird. since we hadn't talked in 2 years, our relationship was between friends, and acquaintance so it was a little awkward. She has 2 other friends in this class that she was sitting beside on the first day, but things changed on the second day. She was sitting in the back row, and I was sitting in the front row. Out of no where, at the beginning of class on the second day she stood up, and said to her friends that she wanted to sit in the front row so she could 'focus more'. I was on the far left side of the front row, and the entire front row in the middle and right was open. She came, and sat beside me and we started talking ; things were a little slow at first because we hadn't talked in awhile. I was really interested in this girl because she high valued academics, and we seemed to be taking similar courses. Just today, the 3rd day of school our class was switching rooms and because of how unlucky I am the seating arrangement was different and we were sitting about 1-2 desk lengths apart, with an aisle between us. I know this is not that much of a deal, but I felt like when she was beside me we were both turning into each other and I could really talk to her more sincerely and we were separated from the rest of the class. So now I don't know what to do. My intentions with this girl are to become friends with her and get to know her, unlike the common guy would think that anyone going for her would be aiming for her looks and body and all that. But at this point I can't really talk much to her because shes pretty far away from me now and she sits beside her other friends (which I don't know). I don't want her to get the wrong idea like i'm just trying to mess around with her and all I want is her body, but I still want to talk to her and see where things go from there. If you've made it through this sob story thanks for reading, any advice or shared experiences would be great.
