i saw a thread about masturbating to porn, and a lot of people said they don't watch it because it's degrading to women. as a female myself, i'm curious - from what i've watched, it's just people having sex. could someone enlighten me?

I think the problems with pornography are that it can be addicting and it can desensitize viewers.

If the porn was made consensually and of the actors' free will, that's not a problem for me. Everybody has their own ways of feeling empowered, and if someone (women in this case since that's what you asked about) feel fulfilled and content showing their bodies in sexual situations, more power to them. I don't like the professional studio stuff because it creates ridiculous body standards that everybody feels they need to live up to. Guys want massive 9" penises and rippling muscles, girls want bubble butts and perky breasts and flat stomaches and it's just not how the human body is meant to look for everyone. It's all fake, and it contributes to toxic stereotypes and standards.

In most cases women r used as
sex objects in porn without any
feeling. Porn is mass produced
and there is no love involved.

Porn is just people having sex and trying to arouse their audience. Like said 9" cocks and moaning girls and everlasting guys screwing in a hundred different positions before the wild climax. It is all staged put on stuff. No love or affection to it and pro stars.

I have no problem with porn unless it's videos or pictures that are shared without the person knowing about it.

Most of it is offensive and degrading to women, who are used as sexual gratification by the men in the scenes. I have seen some beautifully filmed adult videos featuring two lovers interacting in a respectful and romantic manner, both girl-girl and boy-girl, but that sort is a very small portion of everything else that is out there.

This is an excellent answer

Exactly this. People that automatically compare themselves to the people in porn are people with that issue of their own, porn is not the problem, they will compare themselves to anyone.
I genuinely don't know what people rant about when they say it degrades women, both parties are treated like objects equally. Big ol muscular, ripped, plumber dude ready to lay down horse like 10 inch pipe (lmao) to some housewife with the perfect body. If you don't look like them, big deal, who said you had to. They only look that good because people like to look at good bodies and they are paid to do just that.
If you can't distinguish between porn and reality you have a bigger problem.

it’s all consensual. even if it’s ‘degrading’ the girl wants it. I think it’s fine. some girls may really enjoy that stuff

Porn is a big profittable industry. Everything that's shown, is just acts and not how things are supposed to be in real life. Pornstarts are presented as subjects and there are no feeling. Porn is just a way of entertainment, nothing less nothing more.

I think you are right. Porn is all about the money both for the producers and actors.

Porn is not real sex. Don’t base your expectations on it.

I enjoy certain types of porn. I don't like BDSM or when the guys slap and hit the girls. I like it to appear more real and like everyone involved wants to be doing it.

becoz in porn women look as sexual objects, that you can lay in your bed just 5 minutes after you meet her
and sometimes some young, easily-impressed teens think that's real life

I don't think they're doing anything wrong really. It's the ppl who don't realize they're doing a job who make the problems

Some porn content is degrading (treating the women like a POS). But I don't think the content is what a lot of people are referring to. I think they are referring to how the video companies recruit and retain the porn actors. Besides the top porn stars, not many porn actors make much money for their work. They are usually recruited while they are run aways or drug addicts or bad situations. They often are encouraged to do drugs and stay on drugs. That sorta stuff.

If the porn was made consensually and of the actors' free will, that's not a problem for me....
I assume this is free will in the same sense as any other job, i.e. there are many people who do jobs because it pays them to, not because they find it especially fulfilling or believe they are working to the greater good of mankind and, if we say that kind of free will isn't good enough for porn then is it good enough for being a refuse collector?
There are undoubtedly problems about setting unrealistic expectations both in the size of everyone's organs (guys' penises and girls breasts) and it what people like to do - girls do not universally like being given a facial.
On objectification I think there is concern that guys will come to view girls as only being there for guys sexual satisfaction. Anyone with an ounce of sense knows this is not true. Thinking of your own experience puberty added sexual desire and seeking and enjoying orgasms but this was in addition to your existing interests, your friendships and non-sexual relationships not instead of them and so it is with girls and women - they are people for whom sex and sexual attractiveness are part of their personality but very far from all of it and relationships are about those other things too.
When you see a woman in porn it is easy to forget all that other stuff that make her a complete person and just see the sex. You could argue, though, that this is no different from films or TV dramas where you don't think about the life of the actor outside of the film, you just hope they play the part well.
So I think it comes down to realising porn is just like a hollywood movie - even if some foundation in fact is claimed it is more fantasy than reality and should never be mistaken for real life.

I honestly don't agree with any of the whole argument of it being degrading, I mean ok yes maybe with all the stuff from sites like Brazzers and other professional porn sites but stuff like that is only about half of the porn out there, alot of amateur out on the internet that's pretty good

Yeah, nothing wrong with gang rape videos where one girl is being raped by several guys while she saying: "Oh, I wish I had been raped years ago, it doesn't get any better than being raped by several guys at the same time. Rape me harder!!!!"
... i don't think so. pretty sick stuff.
and to think guys get turned on by garbage like that. :(

This.
For the most part, if everything is safe, sane, consensual (the creeper cams and stuff, even the obviously posed ones, disturb me greatly), I don't have a problem with porn...but rape and other darker things (I'm not going to list them here, just, you know what I'm talking about, or you don't, and that's good for you)...and the fetishism thereof...not ok.

I think it's degrading when its really obvious that the woman is not enjoying it (or is obviously forcing herself to pretend to enjoy it). I personally don't see how anyone can find that a turn on tbh

Porn has been around as long as history. Before there might have been a problem say before the 80's. In the 1980's the VHS tape came out and porn helped it take over. As big companies took over it got some what cleaner and then AIDS hit and the testing started. Women pick to go into it MOST times. Other times the underground porn might have girls that did it for drugs. Sadly I know this. But there are agents for the girls and guys. Most women last 2-5 years and then quit.
What happens in porn is for one thing, to help people get off. Now legal porn here in the USA is regulated some what. Now with the internet with some looking you can find almost anything you want legal or less then legal. (Never thought the report I did would help me )

I really don't think there is much wrong with women in porn as long as everything is with consent and agreed to ahead of time (and I know the reality is that has the possibility of not happening). I think there is a problem with desensitizing the excitement when it comes to sex if you watch too much of it. Maybe unrealistic expectations of your own sex life or what your partner may be willing to do as well

I agree however, I've met girls right here on VT who have admitted they like to be gang-banged or have a train run on them and so long as they're willing and it's all consensual, that's their business. It's nothing I'm interested in but if the girl and guys are all into it, that's their business.

I've heard some pretty wild stories too, like the girl that said she was having sex with her dog, and lots of other super weird stuff. Clearly somebody wrote it, but is it real, or just some creepy guy that wants to do that kind of stuff?
It is possible? yeah anything is possible I guess. Is it likely? on a scale of 1-10, more like a 1-2 that a girl wants to be truly raped and goes out at night hoping that some guy attacks her. Sound more like something a creepy guy wants to do, not a girl looking for it to happen to her.

A dog???!!! EWWWWW! And yeah, I agree with you, probably not true and could be some guy trying to live out some sort of sick fantasy or trying to get attention.

I don't see a problem in "main stream" porn i do however feel that alot of underground type porn involves women who are desperate and have no choice but to willingly do things they don't want to do.

I think I've heard about the dog girl, if I'm not mistaken, she had a YouTube channel a while back where she glorified sex with dogs, but eventually her channel was taken down, thank goodness. People like that need help.

When people work in porn with consent it's all fine. It's their choice and they can also choose to quit when they want. Nothing wrong with that. It's a way to make a living. And I'm glad people decide to do it, because some of it turns me on ;)
The problem is with people who do not consent and are forced into porn. Now that IS degrading. The people responsible for this should be locked up and the key thrown away. No-one should be forced to work anywhere, and least of all in porn. It's human decency.
