Question for iPhone users

Anyone who uses a newer iPhone model where the charger and headphones share a port: have you found a dual adaptor that works well? I bought one and I honestly thought my phone was going to blow up... when I plugged everything in, there was static and a feedback sound, and I had to turn up my volume a lot to hear my music. Did I get a defective adaptor, or are they just a way for people to profit from the lack of separate ports in these new models?

The Belkin one either versions. v1 is super ugly and you still need the lightning to 3.5mm thing so its dongleception but it works. v2 is ok but I kinda hear some interference when using high end earbuds.

But yeah, my friend who has the iPhone 7 bought some cheap bluetooth headphones so he could charge it and listen to music, without having an adapter or anything like that.

Thanks for the link. Tbh I'm not fond of the idea of going through the trial-and-error process of finding a good one as they seem questionable at best. I can live without a double dongle :p

I got one that was like £9 (~$11.60) from a generic cheap brand on Amazon as my wireless headphones were on their way out and I didn’t have a lot of money. I still have the standard dongle you get in the box with the phone, I just use the one I bought when it’s charging and I want to listen to music/netflix/etc. It’s pretty good for the price, every now and again you may get a little static when you haven’t listened to any sound in a while, but it’s ignorable. Maybe it would deteriorate in quality quicker if I was using it more frequently in place of the other dongle.

I understand you don’t want trial and error, but maybe I just kinda got lucky :lol: it does sound like you got a defective adapter though. How much did you pay for it roughly? Mine was pretty cheap for the product it is, and I probably wouldn’t trust it if the price was any lower.

edit: researched the Belkin one out of interest, pretty much looks the exact same as mine with Belkin branding. However, on the Belkin website itself it has pretty bad reviews and complains of breaking after a short time period with light usage.. and on Apple EVERY review is 1 star for both dongles. I’d personally say keep the $35..

I bought mine on Amazon for about the same price. The reviews were mostly good, so yeah I guess it's a hit or miss situation and mine was a miss.

Sure no problem, the thing is the Digital to Analog Converter or DAC is now located on the Adapter itself. This is what makes the sound compatible to analogue components such as speakers and such. Having a high quality DAC usually external is a good thing and is needed for most high end headphones.
The earlier iPhones have this built in somewhere near the headphone jack soo...

This basically means you have to be careful on the quality of the adapter you choose because it might affect sound quality. But if you are considering future proofing just buy the double lightning ones so you can even use a higher quality DAC and headphone amplifier in the future.

If you are using 2017 gen iPhones equipped with Qi charging then I would recommend you buying a wireless charger off amazon. With a wireless charger, you can easily charge and listen to music with a wired headphones at the same time if you are not constantly moving. I usually leave my wireless charger on my desk and when I get home from school, I can charge and listen to music at the same time while doing my homework. You can get a Qi charging pad for around the same price as a lightning charging/headphone dac dongle. Alternatively you can also buy a wireless headset if the budget allows.

As to dongles, apple's dongle included in the box is better than 90% of the third party hifi crap you can get online and be careful when buying cheap doles because their sound quality will be much worse than the ones included with every iPhone.

I got the new phone and i hate no headphone jack. The battery is rly good tho so its not too much of an issue because im usually not charging and listening to music at the same time.

I mean, I just make sure my phone is always good to go at 100%. Then I don’t have to worry about charging it for the rest of the day.
