I started when I was 11, or 12, or 13, one of those. I don't remember, all I know is it was sports day at school and I freaked the fuck out. Fun times.

I was 12, and on a camping trip with the scouts and the only female in my patrol including leaders. Annoyingly my periods always seem to coincide with a camp, especially survival ones where we don't bring tents or anything. I wouldn't worry about it, unless you don't get it by the time you turn eighteen, then you should probably go to see a doctor just in case.

I was 12. It was my sister's 11th birthday. I felt so grown up, especially since the first time was light and cramp-free. By my third (4-6 months later I think) I was hating it. It was then regular for a year and a half. I've missed a couple now and frankly, I'm glad. It's made me more moody sort of like long lasting PMS and some bloating, but I haven't had to deal with cramps and everything. (I haven't had sex, I'm just young and irregular)
EDIT: Friggin jinxing myself. Got it this morning T_T

Oh geez. :P

Yeah, I think they say 17/18 is when you need to see someone about it- however, it's also when you are recommended to first see a gynecologist, so it lines up nicely. (Go to a gyno because they can actually help you- family doctors won't always know what's up. Not to mention that you'd probably be referred anyways...Unless your doctor is an idiot or you live in a really podunk little town like I do, but even then I think you'd get referred to another city here.)

AW MAN :P That sucks.

Not to mention that gay sex is reeeeally hard to get pregnant from, or so I've heard ;)

Heterosexual sex is a lot easier to get pregnant from.

I got my first period right after I turned 13. So like four years exactly, maybe a bit more. Seems like a pretty common age for it to happen. 11-14.

EDIT: Would also like to add that if you start puberty later, you get periods later. If you're still childish in shape, it's probably because puberty hasn't done much for you yet- I had B-cup boobs and a fair amount of curves by the time I got my first period.

The point is that she's afraid that there's something medically wrong with her, which is a possibility.

Periods are a fairly big deal, seeing as the lack of them means that the female body isn't functioning properly, and will never be able to reproduce.

And not being curvy also usually means looking prepubescent... Which is fine for kids and preteens, but is a little disconcerting for adults.

Also you can totally go swimming on your period?? If you're smart about using a tampon, it's no big deal.

Um, I'm 17 and I use tampons. It's not that big of a deal. In fact I started using tampons at 14.

And she said herself she had zilch curves implying that she was insecure about it so I was trying to make her feel better

By shaming the body types of like 90% of women out there, and making her dread the time her period comes? Some help.

Mine started when I was 12... One of my friends didn't start till they were 16, people just develop/grow up at different ages.

I was about eleven when I had it.

If this is a concern to you you can always see your doctor just to make sure, but I think you'll still get it. :)

One of my friends also still doesn't have period. It can come even at the age of 16. If after this age it will not come you must contact doctor, i think.

I got my first period at the age of 12.

I got mine when I was nine. T-T

However, it will catch up with you sooner or later. Different people develop at different ages, and as long as you get it before you're eighteen or so you're fine. Otherwise you need to check it.

I was 11. However I had a friend that had her first period at 15 and another one at 16. Did your mom and/or sister had a late start too? Every girl is different, though.
