For demographics: The rate is higher in some regions/states such as in Free State and Western Cape (67-70%) than in others (Gauteng, North West, 25-30%).

About 50% of Black African people are cut, amongst white people it's lower (22%).

Another study (more recent) says 48,2% of Black Africans are cut, 13,4% for medical reasons and 32,1% traditionally. (3)

For >90% of the boys who are circumcised it was not their own choice but that of their parents. That's why I am not judgmental on those who are.

But parents (and probably you are going to be one in the future) should broaden their horizon on the subject and also look for scientific and medical information outside of their own circle before they make such an irreversible decision for their baby-boys.

The main question here is whether male circumcison is genital mutilation or a beneficial procedure. If you want to define circumcision as genital mutilaiton have at it but the facts would disagree. The American Association of Pediatrics has stated the "benefits outweigh the risks" when it comes to male circumcision. I'm not saying that circumcision should be routine or mandatory but I don't believe it's anywhere relatable to genital mutilation. The World Health Organization is actively promoting male circumcision as a way to lower HIV rates in the developing world. No mentally sane person would argue against the facts brought forward by those two respected organizations. Male circumcision should not be routine but that doesn't make it mutilation. The facts are the facts. I still believe that differing opinions make the world great. I sincerely hope that you are also strongly opposed to abortion and vaccinations otherwise you are being extremely hypocritical. It's a parents job to make choices for children like vaccinations, circumcision and even whether to bring the child into the earth(abortion). I respect your views but respectfully disagree.
