I don't think I want to go to prom. I don't know half of the King & Queen of Prom nominees, and I don't speak to 90% of kids in my school. I have a few close friends though and they keep inviting me to go. They said stuffs such as: "it's OK you don't have to talk to anyone, you can talk to ME!" "Can't you just think of it as an all-you-can-eat buffet with a little bit of dancing?" "You will only have one prom in your life, come on!" "it's not like you don't know EVERYone..."
I must say they made some good points, the best being the all-you-can-eat buffet idea (I love food LOL), but the idea of a ball is just not interesting to me. It's not like I have anything to wear either.
What would you suggest?

When is the prom and do you have to say way before you will attend.
Maybe keep your options open -
But if you are way sure now about not going then don't go

You don't need to go if you don't want to, do what you want to do. I went to my prom, I didn't want to and I do regret going because I was uncomfortable the whole time.

You don't need to know everyone there. That's why so many people take outside friends with them. It's also apparently more fun that way.
You don't need to go, but keep in mind that it's a one time thing. If you think that there's a small chance of it being a great time, then I'd go for it.

If you don't want to go, don't. I really don't find the idea appealing or something I'd want to go to myself. But it's your choice.

You'd probably be thinking about how it would have been if you didn't go. On the flip side,if you did go,you'd have that buffet and other stuff that you'll probably enjoy doing.
It's just one of those experiences that you'd want to keep & remember once you've graduated.
It's your choice ultimately :D

If you're not a social person then prom will only depress you and I'd advise not going. If you ARE a social person tho I'd say go. Depends on you.

If you don't want to go, then don't go. Simple as that.

Just don't go.
I'm not going to my prom. I feel self conscious wearing dresses, massive waste of money, hate most of the people at my school. What's the point? Sure it's something that might only happen once but a lot of things only happen once in life and some of them you miss out on. I mean I don't see why it's such a big deal to be honest. Just go to the afterparty if you're into that, there'll probably be food there too.

At the moment I'm not sure I want to go to mine next year either but if you don't want to go then don't bother. I always thought that it was a way to celebrate ending school so instead go and do something with your friends that you will all enjoy

I second that. You really should try and get someone to go with you. It doesn't matter if your extremely close, or their super hot, just go with someone you know. And if you think it will be uncomfortable, you have to make it the way you want it. Fuck the slow dances, they are a bunch of shit anyway!! If your uncomfortable, then change that! I thought it was a waste of time, but I ended up being one of the last ones still there!

I went to my prom. A waste of time, music sucked extremely. At least we got to annoy people and play Red Army songs on the public annoucement system. Afterwards we played a bit of metal.

Thank you for ALL your replies. Really. Each one of your replies matter :) in the end I decided that I'm gonna show up. Might go home early, but I just can't let my friends down.

Aww, personally I think it would be better to go and not enjoy it then to stay home and then always wonder what it would have been like! Even if its just me and my girls, I'm going :)
