just out of curiosity, boys, what do you think of periods?
do you find them gross, disgusting, natural, strange, or do you just not know much about them?

I mean they're perfectly natural and nothing to be ashamed of. It's not like you guys can prevent them in any way so the only really rational opinion to hold is solidarity with your pain and suffering during them.

Around my house, I'm like "ok, I don't need to know about that." I don't find them gross or anything tho, just a normal bodily function.

I do not find them gross, strange or anything like that.

I find them annoying (both for my gf and me) when we want to play, but can't because of her period, but that's the extent of that.

It's natural, I imagine it like constantly peeing slowly throw the day which would be super annoying. Imo I think period products should be free for those most in need. (In my school the started leaving some things for the girls toilets which is pretty nice of the school).

Its a normal natural thing, i wouldn't be here if they didn't happen so... The only part i find annoying are your guys random mood shifts during it or before it, it is very confusing.

I have a twin sister and I do notice when she has them. I know it's natural but we both agree they are a bit weird but part of life. They are usually pretty mild for her but I know friends who get cramps when they have their periods and that just sounds unpleasant!

I have 2 sisters and my mom still has them. It's not gross because it's just a natural part of being a female. My parents were proud of my sisters when they got theirs and talked to my brother and me about all that. I feel bad for them if they get crampy though but I dont get how they can always say its a mood thing and get away with being kinda witchy sometimes.

Hi Sophia,
I'm not sure why, but I have tried to find out about girls' periods, just to see whether I can understand them and to be aware of what happens to girls every month.

There's certainly nothing gross about it, and in a way I feel sorry that you have to put up with them...as well as having to spend money on them!

I am certainly glad we boys don't have them; I'm not even sure we'd be strong enough mentally or emotionally to cope with them.

I don’t really know much about them, but it just seems like a natural thing that girls get. I don’t think it’s gross or anything.

this.

if all the males in the world were like you, the world would be a better place.

Around my house, I'm like "ok, I don't need to know about that." I don't find them gross or anything tho, just a normal bodily function.

interesting approach :D

I do not find them gross, strange or anything like that.

yes!!! most definitely :D

Its a normal natural thing, i wouldn't be here if they didn't happen so... The only part i find annoying are your guys random mood shifts during it or before it, it is very confusing.

haha we find just as annoying :D

you don't know pain until a bad menstrual cramp :D

well... a little harsh there. i enjoy having them from the perspective that my body is capable of so much, but the cramps were harsh the first few times.

Boys should be VERY thankful they DON'T have periods.

god we'd never hear the end of it :D they'd never stop complaining about cramps

thank you for that! it's so nice to see boys trying to be a little more receptive rather than "ew, that's gross."

I don’t really know much about them, but it just seems like a natural thing that girls get. I don’t think it’s gross or anything.

I'm 16, have no siblings, and periods are honestly still pretty much a mystery to me. Like, I know all the girls at school have them, and at any given time about 25% of the girls will be "on the rag", but I absolutely never know which girls are having them when. But whenever a girl get's "bitchy" or gets mad at school, the first thing any of us guys say is, "She must be having her period."

Boys should be VERY thankful they DON'T have periods.
We are. Believe me, we definitely are.

It is natural and I don't have any particular feelings: anyway I don't like having sex during the period

I think the key to understanding that is that our reproductive system is essentially the same as in other mammals but our reproductive behaviour is unique.

We are unique, I believe, in choosing to limit our birth rate by deliberately not using most of a girl/woman's cycles. We're enabled to do this and still survive as a species because we have no predators and because we are able to treat diseases so our infant mortality is very low. We choose to limit our birth rate rather than have people starve (at least in developed countries) - starvation would be the other mechanism for population control in other species.

Also, many other animals have a breeding season and, once that is over, their bodies do not prepare for reproduction until the next season. So, after the birth of her young, or after the lining had been shed anyway in the less likely event that she did not get pregnant, it would then not build up again until the next season. Possibly there is some advantage to having the lining in the non-built-up state for the rest between seasons. It's only in human when the next cycle starts immediately that it seems odd.
