When my friends find out what bands I listen to they're shocked to see an attractive woman fronting metal bands like the Butcher Babies (whose singers are two Ex-Playboy....employees is a good word I guess) and The Agonist. So my question is:
Does anyone have a problem with attractive women fronting metal bands, and doing screams, growls, pig squeals, gutturals, etc. like Alissa White-Gluz, Alexis Brown, Rachael Aspe, Carla Harvey, Heidi Shepherd, etc.
If so why?:what:

I don't see why it should be a problem. Heck, there are attractive woman rappers, there are attractive women in any profession. Just like there are attractive men in any profession.
Looks don't have to correlate with talent/ability for better or for worse. I hate it when people think looks mean something significant about the way a person is. :/

It wouldn't be gender or attractiveness for me as much as I don't like screams and growls lol. But obviously attractive females fronting metal bands isn't a problem, actually a plus for me. But I tend to go for Simone Simons, Tarja Turunen, Floor Jansen-type voices in metal. Although despite that I also have a bit of a soft spot for Morgan Lacroix as well and her... whatever you call those—like I said I'm not into the growl groan scream stuff—are pretty epic.
Strange, because in other genres I'm largely 50/50, but in metal I prefer female voices.

Who cares? It doesn't matter if they're male or female, white or black or purple, as long as they love playing and they respect the music, it's a good thing.

Why can't I meet people in real life like you:(
I have never known someone to listen to everything I do and prefer (or even know about) the same vocalists I do.
Also you say you tend to go for Floor Janson type voices does that include her recent vocal styles or is it strictly the smooth-classical mixture you prefer?

It doesn't make a difference whether it's a guy or girl fronting a music group. As long as they make good music, it's all good. I hate sexist stuff like that, that bands can't be fronted by girls.

I don't think of them as hot, just beautiful, kinda. like Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless :)

I don't think it's so much that people don't like women in metal as much as they're just surprised that women, like men, can reach deep bass notes.

^ Women are just expected to fit traditional gender norms. So when they end up sounding like this, it just freaks people out. It's unexpected. It's jarring to their perceived reality.

1. Why is it a problem?
2. Why is it surprising?

The only female fronted band I like is Destiny Potato, because they actually sound competent as a band. Female fronted bands usually sound either generic as fuck or just really bad in general, which is a shame.
That being said there's nothing wrong with it as a concept. No one on this site would have a problem with it so this question is kind of pointless. Not sure why how attractive they are matters much.

Most of them are beautiful women who sing and scream, and they all for the most part do a damn good job at it. Maria Brink from In This Moment rocks it.

Oh, I love both her classical style and that big power metal voice (another name: Kimberly Goss). I like lyric sopranos a lot but I tend to like the big female voices a little more just because power metal seems to be much more male-dominated than symphonic metal. That's what grabbed me with Floor; first song I ever heard of her was Energize Me. She'll use both often within the same song.
Lol, I've always wondered that too. I've met two people (outside of concerts) that ever said they liked specifically Nightwish, and one friend didn't know about them until I introduced them to her. But they were more into nu metal, deathcore, and whatever else (no offence if anyone here likes those genres, just I've always been more into the goth, power, symphonic, progressive stuff).

I don't think anyone would have a problem with attractive girls in metal (au contaire), but the girls themselves. I have nothing against it, but personally, I dislike most female vocalists. Triosphere, Ludicra and Crystal Viper are the only counter-examples I have in mind.
I second Fractured Silhouette (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/member.php?u=52532)'s post.

I don't listen to metal bands and even I find this quite sad..
I mean guys are allowed to sing, scream, or rap in any profession, and us girls are okay with that (actually usually WAY more than okay with that) But if a girl does a genre that a majority of guys do, it's suddenly not normal.
C'mon now, it's just music, who cares who's singing as long as they're not auto tuned or they suck.

Its just cool to see women finally in the metal genre of music, and they are tearing it up. The Pretty Reckless, Halestorm, Evanescence, In This Moment, are all amazing bands and have beautiful singers.
