So, from my understanding, with periods comes hormone unbalances, and with those introduces mood swings? If so, do females ever get used to this? And can you (mitigate isn't the right word) but help yourself from going so far in overreaction?
I'm a boy, so I don't understand this, and I wanted to ask. Even though this isn't worded well, I hope you can get the gist of it.

As a girl I have no choice but to get used to it. None of us like the mood swings and we realize that we can be really difficult to be around sometimes. It's not like we choose to behave that way but the hormones can really mess you up and make you act different. I can actually tell that I'm not behaving like I would normally want to but it can also be nearly impossible to stay grounded. It's pretty easy for my family to know what time of the month it is. Me and mom and my big sis all have our periods at the same time (that happens in families and situations where girls live together) so dad knows to step back and give us space. :(

I usually don't have mood swings with my periods. I know some people do though.

The only girl I really notice them on is my twin sister but she never has mood swings and luckily very mild periods in general. But I usually give her a bit more space but overall nothing changes much.

Hormones definitely change just before and during my period but I know it’s coming and I don’t really have “mood swings” but I’m probably more likely to get upset about stupid stuff

I haven't had very many periods yet. I haven't noticed any mood swings but it affects other things.

I got lucky this past school year where 4 of us guys and 2 girls all became real good friends. Not dating or any couples, just good friends, and we get together a lot and talk about everything. The girls have shared with us how they feel when they know their period is gonna start, and when they're having their periods. I know it's helped me a lot to better understand what it's like for a girl. (And the girls ask us things like why we get boners all the time and why do boys jerk off all the time. It's nice to talk about these things as a mixed group.)
