View Full Version : Locking the door.

Do you always lock the bathroom door when you’re in there? Is it strange that our bathroom doesn’t have a lock? We’ve got pretty good at knocking before entering but I’ve been caught and have caught people in the shower or peeing a few times in the past.

Does this happen to anyone else or is it just my house?

We don’t have locks on our bathroom doors, so if the door is closed, you know someone is in there, and only go in if you can’t wait to get something out. Of course everyone walks in on others showering or pooping, but it’s no big deal

I'm a only.. I never lock the door (If it would even work) the door is a in-wall pocket door, that comes off the track alot, so i rarely even close it.

If we have someone in the Guest Room I will close it. We/I keep the door to the guest room/Office closed 99% of the time.

Its called a "Jack & Jill" bathroom that is between the two rooms.

I've always had locks on the bathroom doors, so for me it'd be pretty weird to be in one without a lock

Our family has always had an open door policy, we aren't allowed to even close the bathroom door unless visitors are in the house and it doesn't have a lock. But when I go to other places that have locks, I never bother to use the lock since I've grown up without one.

We have a lock on our bathroom door, but rarely use it. We just keep the door slightly open when no one is there, so if we see the closed door, that means someone's in there. xD

there are locks on our bathroom doors, but we hardly use them. If the door is closed then we know its occupied however, if we really need to get in, then we always knock on a closed door.

My bathroom door has a lock but we don't use it. We knock on the door and ask if we can come in.

We all lock the bathroom door when we use the bathroom. It's out of courtesy so no one walks in on someone doing something that should be very private. The only exception is that my little brother who's 6 doesn't.

Our bathrooms have locks. If I am in the upstairs bathroom I lock the door. I am pretty lucky I have my room in the basement and it has a bathroom right off the bedroom so I don't usually even close the door.

To the best of my memory my bathroom doors have always had locks. I lock them when I'm in there, but if your family is conscientious about giving people fair warning about them entering, I don't really see a problem with it.

We have locks on the bathroom doors but don't use them that often. If the door is closed then you knock first. It's only during some business that we'd close the door. Otherwise it's not a big thing if it's open.

We've only got one bathroom and we all lock the door for using the toilet. But not for showers incase somebody else is desperate for a wee . Actually that is really only for the morning so I can go in if mum or dad is in the shower and I need to go in there when I wake up.

I don't lock the door in the bathroom in our room but I do for the main bathroom because parents and little sister use it. Ours is only used for me and my brothers.

I have a bathroom that connects to mine and my brothers room and to my sisters room. These doors don’t have locks on them or we can go in and out as we please. We often walk in on someone pooping or showering, but no one cares that much.

That's just how my family is. We've been raised as naturists/nudists so we rarely wear any clothes at home when it's warm enough not to, and everyone has seen each other naked like a kajillion times already.

Mom says that in her family growing up, there were no doors on any of the bedrooms or bathrooms because there were 9 kids in the family and not enough bedrooms or bathrooms available for anyone to ever have had privacy, and it seemed like things worked out well with that arrangement. So we've always done the same thing. Honestly, it's no issue for me at all. I'm not modest, or shy about using the bathroom with the door open. It's positioned so you'd have to go out of your way to look in the open door anyway.

At our middle school, there weren't any dividers or stalls in the bathroom, just a row of toilets out in the open along one wall. Other girls didn't really like that at all, but it didn't bother me.

....lol.

and i had to hold myself back on saying something about "not allowing" bathroom doors to be closed because that seems just as silly as people being kinda paranoid about someone fling the bathroom door open.

we have a lock on the bathroom doors, but nobody ever used them as far as i know. maybe guests do when they come over.

If the door is shut and the light is on and not to mention you can smell it or hear it in some cases then you know there is someone or something in there

and everyone i know, friends, family, guests, etc have good manners, and knock first if the door is closed. 99.999% of the time, the door is left open when not in use.

... but ya never know, a crazy psychopath could sneak into the house and fling the bathroom door open. :P

We also have locks on our bathrooms (dowstairs and upstairs too). Before puberty I never wanted to lock, but after turning 12 I only feel safe behind locked doors. Just dont like it when somebody opens the door on me being in the bath or the shower. Kind of embarrassment... :(

When I’m home at my moms, I rarely do, I have my own bathroom attached to my room and she’s not going to come in. At my dads I do because my little stepbrother doesn’t understand privacy and would just come in.

Bathroom is the only door in the house that has locks. Well besides the main outside doors lol. So I have been walked in on and have walked in on people in bedrooms even though we do try to remember to knock. Bathroom door lock can be picked with basically a toothpick so it's not like it's bulletproof lol. But if it's locked you can assume somebody is dropping a deuce. Parents have their own bathroom and kids have ours. We don't lock the door to shower or to get ready in the morning. it's everyone for themselves then lol. But for crapping it's nice to have privacy. Also sometimes we lock the door to take a shower but basically it's assumed if that's done that the person is bating lol. So if you lock it for a shower, you might as well make a sign saying what you are doing haha.

At my home we have several bathrooms. My parents have a master bathroom next to their bedroom. My sibs and I have a bathroom which we have to share. There is a guest bathroom downstairs off the den and another bathroom in the cabana which is next to the pool. There are locks on every bathroom door. But the only bathrooms that are usually locked when in use are the guest and cabana bathrooms. Our parents don't required that all the bathrooms be locked when in use. Locking the bathroom doors are left up to the users.

i share bathroom with my brothers, parents got their own. we have a lock but when we shower, we don't lock it, only when we're on the toilet. my brothers and i sometimes walk in when one is in the shower when we forgot something in the bathroom or need to grab something real quick. you can't really see anything as we got a curtain but even if it wasn't drawn, it's not like we haven't seen it before

Nope. It was just my parents in the house until I arrived age 12. (It was a long labour) so they never bothered. Their rule was if you are using it shut the door tight and nobody will enter without knocking, If its not tight shut it will be Ok to open. Thats what I go with and it seems to work,.Maybe easier for me as no pesky siblings.
Same with bedrooms.

No locks on any doors after a rather memorable incident where my sister locked herself in the bathroom in a tantrum and broke the doorknob.

So now it’s turn as much away from the door while peeing just in case, because 99 percent of the time if the doors shut they knock, but occasionally it’s forgotten and I have to yell.
