i thought i'd start a thread for period "horror stories" - we can all share our own or just read others' to not feel so alone.

my period usually comes at the worst times:
+ during p.e. at school
+ family trip to palestine where i couldn't get ibuprofen for cramps for about 3-4 hours
+ swimming
i also started again a couple of days ago at summer camp. the problem was that it was the one-night camping trip at the beach. and of course, i had brought pads, but decided not to bring them, thinking "it won't come."
lo and behold, my period came.
the evening (when i realized i had my period) was ok. i got a pad from another girl, and wasn't bleeding too heavily. at night i just used a blac sock to prevent leakage, and wore black leggings as i was in a sleeping bag under the stars.
the next morning though - ahem.
first off, i woke up at 5am, and realized that although it was hard to see, i had bled through the leggings and there was a definite stain. so off to the beach bathrooms i went, with more socks in pockets. and there was no tissue in the bathrooms.
thankfully there was nobody there, so i rinsed the dirty sock and used more clean socks as pads. i headed back to the campsite, and once i had realized i wasn't going to be going back to sleep, i just sort of tidied up and wandered around the beach, enjoying the view.
but it got worse as the morning went on. at about eleven a.m., when everyone was up and we had packed up in preparation to leave, we headed down to the beach. everyone else was paddling and playing soccer, but the socks were starting to chafe and i didn't feel like being very active.
i went off to explore some rocks, and went up and down to the campsite occasionally, with my legs sore and raw, getting water. then after one trip, as i lay on a rock to chill, i realized there was a fairly visible bloodstain on my green shorts.
i'd been tying my jacket around my waist, taking it on and off, as the socks weren't the best. but when i realized i was staining, i also realized that i'd had my jacket off, and probably half of the camp had seen (i'm 99% sure the instructors did anyway). but i'd run out of socks at this point, and so all i could do was tie the jacket around me again, and lie on the rock, cursing myself for not bringing pads.
eventually i got access to my bag (it had been loaded into the luggage van) and so i could change my shorts and fix the socks somewhat. the ride home was ok, but the second we were back at the camp's center, i grabbed pads.
i still have marks from the socks on my legs. definitely the worst period i've had so far :/
