It's a sad reality and yes it is cruel. Majority of circumcisions are done without the consent of the person it is being done on. Not normal either, imagine your clitoral hood being cut off when you were a baby and had no say, its the female equivalent except our "hood" covers the main part of our sexual organ. It started as a religious and pseudoscience that said masturbation was wrong and the source of any disease or bad happening, because foreskin makes it easier to masturbate so they got the genius idea to cut it off. In the early 1900s, some quacks restarted the idea of circumcision and it spread across America. To ensure this ideology would live on they made up some false rhetoric that it was cleaner and some misleading studies were published. Now it is like tradition, fortunately people are finally waking up as infant circumcision rates are on the drop.
